Yea, I know the Rooneys like operating the team like a family, and that is mostly a good thing. Former players who go to other teams often comment on it saying "when you go to another team, you realize you are no longer in a family atmosphere like you are in Pittsburgh." I like that. Ownership actually cares about its players.
But for all that is holy, enough with the signing of actual brothers just to be "extra family-ish." Edmunds brother at HB ain't worth dung. He's not going to all of a sudden be good. And the Watt FB...soaking up $2.5 mill and a roster spot for what? Special teams? I thought the idea for special teams players was to sign guys who could develop into regular players, like Terrell Davis did for the Broncos. What is Watt going to develop into? He barely makes the field on offense.
So now, you got it, another brother waiting in the wings: Conner Heyward. Yup, Cam's little brother. He's a TE but is south of 6 foot. (How many TEs in the NFL aren't even 6'?) Then they say, "He can play FB too." Great, sign another FB who will never be used on the field just because his brother is a starter on the team. As a matter of fact, look into every starter on the team and see if they have any brothers at all; if they do, sign them up. You can't have enough brothers on the team, regardless if they can contribute or not. "We are fam-i-ly, come on all my brothers and sing!"
