Some Day 3 WR's who should be on the Steelers radar

First off I am fully on board with re-signing Ju Ju if we can keep him around a 7-8 M per year price tag. If not we may have to bump WR need up a notch. The following are a few guys you may or may not know that could be just what the doctor ordered on day 3.

    1) Keytaon Thompson-WR-Virginia- 6'4" 210lb- Thompson is a former Miss St QB who transferred to Virginia to play WR. He is a little bit of a Jack of all trades guy who has great size, red zone ability and RAC skills. He is also an awesome blocker in the run game. If Ju Ju leaves Thompson doesn't really fit the slot mold, however, he can really add some depth at the outside and bring some nice size and versatility.

    2) Bo Melton-WR-Rutgers- 5'11" 190 lbs What Thompson lacks in slot ability Melton makes up for. Melton was born to play the slot. Runs nice routes and can get short game separation. Top end speed to stretch the field (4.34) to boot. Understands the position and has special teams experience also.

    3) Charleston Rambo-WR-Miami- 6"1" 180 lbs Rambo ran a disappointing 40 ath the combine (4.57) but his gametape shows consistent ability to get down the field. Shows a knack to stretch the seams and is slot prototypical. 3 year starter for 2 different power 5 schools with different offensive systems. Has a strong route tree and gets out of his breaks nicely. A little lean and has had some drop issues but should be a value in the 6th or 7th round.

I keep reading they're looking more like $15M for JuJu and are actually in talks...

Where's Skyy Moore? Early on i reading early day 3, but I'm guessing he's moving up a little - decent combine performance.

I do like Melton - Rutgers seems to be a nice place to find gems recent years like Ray Rice, Kenny Britt, Mohammad Sanu, Gus Edwards, Tyler Kroft, and the McCourty boys (Devin and Jason) at a quick glance of Rutgers alum...

I can't pay more than 9-10 for Ju Ju. He is a slot only at this point. Sky Moore left the day 3 conversation long ago. He is a top 100 pick.

Will be disappointed if we pay $15 mill for JuJu.

I like him but unless we get a legit #1 we aren’t going to get a good ROI.

But that's the thing... 32 picks per round, mean 96 picks through day 1 and 2 which are 3 rounds... Seems to me even with moving up, he's still right on the edge (unless you're saying more like top 75 or top 50).

I keep seeing 5 years, $65-75 for JuJu is what's being discussed. Given his knack to do his best Hines Ward (i.e., bring general toughness to the WR corps, whether blocking or just fighting for tough catches / yardage) I think it's not too far off. I think he was under utilized the last couple of years in an effort to keep Ben upright. Basically, I think he's the same guy that was opposite AB - I don't see a guy that age suddenly losing skills / speed, but the offenses just didn't use him that way.

It's sorta like how Mike Wallace wasn't the same after Arians left - because they didn't go deep as often. (Lord I hope that didn't draw out the "15+ yard passes under ___" folks who want to argue... Because Mike was no 15 yard route runner... He was a 1-trick pony, but that one trick was unstoppable for a spell...)

In any event, I think JuJu's decline is related to the offense's decline. And I hope that's a function of a bad o-line, not a function of a bad offense. Even in a short, quick-hitting offense, he's still capable of being your Anquan Boldin

Our round 4 pick will be a comp pick. Putting it at basically a round 5 pick. Sky Moore will be long gone. Having said that I wouldn't be surprised if we use our 3rd round selection on him (that wasn't the point of my thread though). Ju Ju is not the same guy he was opposite AB for the simple reason AB is no longer opposite of Ju Ju. AB was the best WR in the NFL then. I really like Ju Ju but anything more than 10 per year is not worth it, particularly given Colberts talent for drafting WR's.
