There is no arguing he was a productive player last year, but how will he rate as a pro? How much did his supporting cast help him? I say pass, but he'll likely be gone before we pick and no way should we trade up for him costing a lot of draft capital.
Kenny Picket's hand size? Hit or pass?

Kenny Picket's hand size? Hit or pass?
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.
Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.
*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***Tags: None -
I don't think he gets past Carolina.Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!
I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season. -
I do. What is great at? He's good at a lot but very much a poor man's Joe Burrow. He's a quarterback and most likely the first one taken. I view him as a late first round pick. Besides he got the smallest **** in the NFL. That is what they say anyway.Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. As I said on an earlier thread Burrow will cause Pickett to be over drafted.Last edited by Chucktownsteeler; 03-03-2022, 10:56 AM.Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

He also is willing to tuck and run for a first down. I watched him grind out a few first downs on key drives where a lot of QB’s would bail or slide short of the first down.
He had the controversial fake slide in the ACC Championship game but that was still a 70 yard run.
42 TD’s his last year.. its pretty obvious what he does well.Steelers 27

An 8 1/2" hand is small. But tape should say whether to be concerned or not. Was he really known as a fumbler in college?
The other thing; we talk about is whether a QB has "it" and I would say Pickett has more "it" than any other QB in this draft. He won't be around for the Steelers to be teased anyway at #20.Comment

I don't know how true it was, but I remember a friend of mine who was an Eagles fan always lamenting McNabb's small hands and his high fumble rate. But I never verified that (1) he had small hands and (2) he had a higher than normal fumble rate.
My guess is that it's just an academic question for us because I don't think he'll be around when we draft. And I don't see us spending a ton of capital to move up for any of the QBs in this class. Especially since we're pretty late in the 1st and I'd imagine that 2 QBs probably go in the top 10 or so (because QBs are always over drafted).Last edited by Northern_Blitz; 03-03-2022, 02:04 PM.Comment

I think somewhere around 40 fumbles in the last 4 years.
And the NFL ball can be bigger.
Also, how well does he throw in cold weather? Could be another issue with smaller hands.sigpicComment

The NFL ball is wider and more slick. I think that’s why everyone is bringing up hand size.Comment

Hand size / arm length / other physical parameter, probably isn't hugely important by itself if it's within some acceptable range.
But you probably don't want to be in the case where "no QB has hands as small as Pickett" or "close to no starting Cs with shorter arms".
NFL draft prospect and former Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett registered an 8 1/2-inch hand measurement at the NFL combine Tuesday, smaller than that of any quarterback currently in the NFL.
I think being outside the full distribution of starters in the league for a trait that might be at least somewhat useful isn't a good thing...especially if you're not seen as a sure thing / elite player.
Doesn't mean that he'll absolutely fail, but it probably increases the chances.
There's a reason Doug Flutie dominated in the CFL (he was a "huge gamer" that had "it"), but not in the NFL (too short @ 5'10" ? to see over linemen). Maybe that's less of a limitation now (Murray is also 5'10")?
Was Flutie really 5'10? Here he is standing next to Drew Brees who is listed at 6'0".

I bet it's a bit like with Green's arm length.

6-3 his first year with NE.
He went 21-9 in 3 years at Buffalo too.
Just seemed like teams refused to commit to him due to his size.Steelers 27
