At this point, everything is a wild guess because we have no idea how FA shaped up and the state of the roster going into the draft. So I'm just going to assume we shored up every position with acceptable talent and can just take the best players available.
1. Jordan Davis - NT - Georgia
Let's just grab the biggest body we can find and plant him in the middle of our D and address the run D and free up the rest of our front 7 to make plays. The only concern here is this is a tall guy so leverage might be challenging for him, but he's a monster of a dude and that's gotta command a double team in the very middle which makes everything else easier giving our D a player advantage and essentially playing 10 on 9.
I like Willis and think the Steelers do too. But I think he's going higher than our slot and I'm not trying to do a trade up scenario here. Although I'd highly consider Willis or Stingley here if he drops, but I doubt either do. I'd consider trading up for either of those guys too.
2. Jahan Dotson - WR - PSU
I think he could end up being one of the best WRs in this class. He's fast, shifty, physical, and has great hands and will go get balls. The only draw back is he's a little on the small side, but I see him as a guy that can always be open and will always make catches.
3. Damone Clark - ILB - LSU
He's got the size, athleticism, and all the tools to be a great LB. I think he just needs the finishing at this point and we might as well take advantage of having Flores as our LB coach and get him an ILB with uber potential that he can help us develop. I see him being versatile in the run and passing game. Could be a good pairing with Bush assuming he turns it around, but if not, I think Clark could develop to be as good as we hoped Bush would be in his own right.
4. Max Mitchell - OT - Louisiana
He's a long and athletic OT with a good base to work with. Probably needs a year of strength training to see where he can get. I think he could play either side, but he's a bit thin at this point that I would suspect his strength might be more aligned to being a LT, but nonetheless, he's gonna have to beef up to play either side. He's a bit of a finesse player at this point, but I think he'd have a ton of upside to be worth the gamble in round 4. I suspect someone could like him earlier if they envision him as a LT given the value of the position.
6. Thayer Munford - G/T - OSU
He's a big dude for a OG currently and has played T pretty well in the past at OSU. I was surprised to see his name so far down some draft rankings. I think people were more impressed with him as a tackle then think he regressed when he moved inside to G. Seems like a pretty versatile guy on the Oline and might be worth it as a development project given his sheer size and NFL frame. I'm not 100% sure if he's a G or T.
7a. Sterling Weatherford - S - Miami of OH
I haven't looked at enough players that could be available in the later parts of the draft, but consider, we haven't won a SuperBowl without a player from Miami of OH since the 70s. And the idea that Flores is going to work with LBs and Ss seems to make this pick a little more intriguing. Sterling is a LB body playing S. He's 6'4 and probably somewhere in the 230-40 range. He might have to convert to LB in the NFL. Or our Ss have had to make a lot of tackles lately so why not get a giant that can tackle to pair up with Minkah. And Flores was a guy that likes using player's versatility and this seems like the perfect project for him. I'm thinking we lean into getting guys for Flores to build up as much as possible even if we only have Flores for a year.
7b. Ali Fayad - OLB - Western Michigan
Seems a bit smallish for an edge rusher at 6'2" but he's got some size at about 250lbs. And he was productive in the MAC as the MAC DMVP. He's not a projected starter. He didn't get an invite to the combine, but I heard an interview of this kid a while back and he seems to believe in himself and motivated to prove all the doubters wrong. I think he's another good project for Flores and at least could be a ST demon for us while we figure out if he can contribute on D.
