"Steelers have failed as an organization if Rudolph is their QB"

Ryan Clark said it on "Get Up" today. He did specify if they wanted to seek a championship in 2022, it would be a failure if Mason is the starter. There is zero chance they win a ring in 2022 if MR is their starting QB. I totally agree, but whether the team admits it or not, you aren't gonna have a chance to win it all every year.

They did mention (and we heard this before a few times) that the team considered Mason to be "a first round talent" when they drafted him (and I guess that means some yinzers bought that line at the time, as we heard with Jeremy Staat, Kendrick Green last year and others throughout the years. Not sure how those pronouncements have worked out so far.)

And for those "waiting to see how RM does with a full camp with the starters" I got bad news for you: He's not going to magically transform into a good QB. That ain't gonna happen. The days competing with a flunkie QB are over, if they ever did exist. Like Clark said, "Mason is an average QB, not an average starter, an average QB."

Ryan Clark is a hack now. Dude is just throwing stuff out there.

“If Mason is the starter they are no longer the Steelers”

okay Ryan. Didn’t you also want Tomlin to coach LSU last week?

This is how you know the season is over.

Hot takes, get yer hot takes!!!

I, too, would rather see someone besides MR at QB for the Steelers next season, but to say that if he IS the QB, they've "FAILED as an ORGANIZATION"?

I don't know, I guess extreme exaggeration generates attention that is beneficial to Clark and his employer. It sure doesn't make Ryan look very smart.

I would say the Steelers failed to properly prepare for Ben’s retirement. I understand it may have been difficult when you consistently pick in the last half of each round. This offseason is still young so they got time.

Clark has gotten worse the more time he spends at ESPN. He uses hyperbole too much versus using his experience for rational takes.

I guess the Saints failed after Brees. Whenever a team has a two decade starter and high levels of success, they lose flexibility because of drafting very low and cap restrictions. Not everyone can get lucky and fall into the situation Green Bat did with Favre and Rodgers.

I recently read an article on MaxPreps where they listed the greatest native-born quarterback from all 50 states and to my surprise they had Mason Rudolph as the best QB to ever come out of the state of South Carolina. Obviously South Carolina must not be the Western PA of Dixie.
Obviously the standard is the standard.

He probably found the old training material from Skip Bayless...

I think Ryan is assessing it as if the team plans on contending for a ring in 2022. If they do, he is right that the team has failed as an organization. That is the prism into which he is seeing this.

                    I just did.. its gibberish.

These dudes yap because they have to but it’s February.

If Mason is the starter and we start out 3-0 watch how these dudes switch up.

This idea that we have to immediately have the next franchise in 2022 or its over is hilarious.

I can get with that. I think if Mason is the starter I’m not thinking SB. But hell, last year we had Ben and I wasn’t thinking SB.

I’m just trying to get this money off the books for Ben and a few other players so we can really make moves.

I just think its the in thing to do to crap on Mason. I’m willing to give him a real shot
next year before deciding he is a bum.

New Orleans failed so bad Sean Payton quit.

Not that I don’t believe you, but I have a hard time thinking this is true with Clemson being in SC.

At some point there had to be a kid growing up that was a Clemson fan and could play QB. Plus with Charlotte on the SC border, there’s gotta be more local interest in football down there.

New Orleans' fans held on to Sean Payton for too long for what he did over a dozen years ago.

they should have gotten rid of him the way Miami did with that bum Don Shula. just look at how many Super Bowls the Dolphins have won since.

                            oh wait...

THAT is the problem. Consistently picking in the lower half of each round. There are only so many finds of Aaron Rodgers down there... From there you have to get lucky with a day 2 or 3 QB and very few of those guys are starters, and even fewer lead contenders.
