I don't think Schobert is a bad player. I just think Johnson is better for the same type of money.

With more money to spend than I can ever recall having Pittsburgh should be looking to add it’s biggest crop of FA’s in team history. This would allow the Steelers to immediately jump back into contention and be playoff caliber for years to come. Lets look at Free Agents and the Draft. (see sig for some additional details)

          Free Agent Adds (Outside)

          1) Jerrick McKinnon-RB-reclamation project who can catch the ball and should be reasonably priced on a 2 year deal.
          2) Trent Brown-OT-this would cost us about 10M/year but Brown is a VERY solid OT who can play either side.
          3) Ben Jones-C-experienced veteran who can stabilize the position for a couple years
          4) Akeim Hicks-DE- this would only be an option if we move on from Tuitt contractually pretty equal
          5) Kemoko Turray-OLB- could really shine in a situational pass rush role, could come cheap on a short “prove you can stay healthy” deal
          6) Alexander Johnson-ILB-veteran performer who plays the run and coverage equally well
          7) Rasul Douglass-CB-really shined in GB this year and came on much the way Witherspoon did with us
8-Jayron Kearse-SS-an upgrade over Terrell Edmunds in coverage (although resigning Edmunds is a possibility)

          Free Agents (Inside)

          1) J.C. Hassanauer-C-nice backup who is cheap
          2) Robert Spillane-ILB-see above
          3) Monty Adams-DT-young promising DT who can rotate with AluAlu
          4) Akhello Witherspoon-CB-showed enough promise to earn a nice payday
          5) Miles Killebrew-SS-special teams ace and quality depth
          6) JuJu Smith Schuster-WR-you all know the deal

          2022 Draft

1/20-Best QB on our board. I haven’t decided who I’d like yet as all the QB’s have flaws. I’ll be comfortable with Colberts pick of one (Pickett, Ridder, Corral, Willis,Howell) although Howell admittedly is my least favorite

2/52-Zion Johnson-OG-BC-plug and play guard for years to come. Bully

3-Perion Winfrey-DE-OU-stout against the run with some pass rush upside

          4c-Braxton Jones-OT-Southern Utah-Giant of a man with high ceilling

6-Charleston Rambo-WR-Miami- has some great college experience and enough speed to take the top off, looking forward to seeing how he runs at combine

7-Erik Swenson-OT-OU-developmental lineman with some position flexibility

          7-John Haggerty-P-Western Kentucky-I’ve seen enough of Harvin

          53 man Roster to follow
Meh. Some of it I like, but some- nah..

Our young OL doesn't need another complete upheaval like it had last year. If we do that again, we will be struggling again in 2022. Towards the end of the year, those guys improved as a unit. Possibly because Green was replaced by Hassenhaur. But the others started to play better too. The 4th stringer LeGlue filled in admirably too. IF it were up to me, I would leave the two tackle spots alone- meaning- I'd re-sign Okorafor. He can be gotten at a good price I think. The interior of the line is where I would work on. I would slide Green to RG and see how he works out there. I'd also draft a OG somewhere in the first 4 rounds. Dotson will be back at LG, LEGlue can be brought back for backup. Center- here is where I like your pickup of Ben Jones in FA. unless they re-sign Banner. He's a FA, right? or is he back? If not Banner, another cheaper FA OT as a backup, or draft a OT in the late rounds.

At QB, Rooney already said that he wants a mobile QB, but one thats a passer 1st and not a Lamar Jackson run all the time QB. I'd seriously look at trading up in the 1st round to get Pickett. Unless he doesn't impress at sr. bowl, combine, etc. He'll sell jerseys, and sell seats, even if he doesn't start in 2022. He went to Pitt so he's a crowd favorite. I do want to watch the senior bowl and combine, etc. to see if he's legit. The Strong kid may be an option here too. But the fans are on the Pickett bandwagon, and thats something as an owner, I think Rooney needs to look at long term. The Commanders in Washington have been addressing their concerns over lost ticket revenues after years of filled seats. They simply don't have a product and QB that attracts the audience anymore. Their FO is stating this now as the reason, although getting rid of the Redskins name hasn't helped either. The Steelers don't want to fall in to this as well by going back to our years of Graham, Maddox, Miller, Stewart era.

On defense- I like your options at ILB, DL.. We need to shore up the interior of the defense. They have said they weren't happy with Schoeberts play. They didn't come right out and say in the press last week, but they sure as heck hinted at it. Gotta use that cap money on some DL depth and ILB, Safety. Re-sign Witherspoon. I doubt Edmunds will return, and I also doubt Alualu and Tuitt return as well. If 1 of them come back. thats a bonus. Carry on..

So keep both and dump Spillane, who doesn't belong on the field. Steelers made this same mistake with Ingram. Need to value depth and rotations.

I would not entertain keeping Schobert unless we cut his money in half
