Enough with the ‘no talent’ excuse.

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season. -
I’m not just talking just about last night.
When we were losing during the year , it was lack of talent, some said.
The point is, those same ones saying lack of talent, have been praising our last 5 years draft picks and giving the steelers As and Bs for grades. They even post how bad all the other teams drafted.
Some even find articles from writings dating we have the best draft over the last 5 years.
You can’t use ‘cap hell’ as an excuse. What players did we lose that we really wanted but couldn’t afford?
And we sure can’t use the excuse that we couldn’t go get any FAs because we were up against it. All I hear is how ‘the Steelers dont operate that way, they sign there own that’s why they are so successful’.How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?Comment

Maybe. AB was an extreme case... even in a league full of "Divas". I can see why the FO made the push towards high character guys. I hope they stay the course with that.. with more emphasis on talent.Comment

So you think that KC is better at basically every position (with the only non-advantage at RB where we push).Clearly, the most important position on the team, QB - big time KC.
Huge part of a team's worth, head coach. Clearly KC.
Giant part of team quality, OL. KC by a mile.
WR - Didn't see any drops by KC's WRs, Hill a top 3 WR in NFL. KC.
RB, as a unit, push.
TE, with Kelce? KC.
D front 7 - KC
Secondary - KC
But you don't think that the talent difference was a big reason we lost the game?
Aside: I notice how you listed "front seven" so you didn't have to give us the advantage at edge...nice move.Comment

I agree that it's frustrating. But I guess maybe I had lower expectations that you this season, and certainly for this playoff game. Except after the Bills game. That game was close to perfect defensively and I thought if we could do that we could be competitive even with this terrible offense. It isn't just losing, it's HOW we lose. Routinely getting blown the F out, and looking like we don't have any plan or clue whatsoever out there. Having WRs and TEs running 20 yards down the field without a defender within 15 yards of them isn't due to talent. That's scheme. The same as against Minnesota. There were tons of missed tackles, but Cook was routinely gaining 10-20 yards without anyone even close to him. Offense is the same. Our line is putrid and our WRs suck. What do teams do when we can't stop the pass rush? Designed screens to the RBs. How about some passes over the middle to our big stud TE? How many of those have we seen this year?
We have little talent, but our coaching is embarrassing
I think the offense sucks because the QB is pretty limited in what he can do in tight coverage. So the opposing D doesn't have to prepare for much.
And the D played really well at the beginning of the game. But I think they get gassed / demoralized after outscoring and almost outgaining the offense in the first half.
We have sucked against explosive teams all year. Because we absolutely suck at generating explosive plays on offense. And losing 2/3rds of the DL (combined with bad ILBs) meant we also sucked against the run.
This team was duct taped together in the offseason to try for one more run. We didn't have a lot of cap space, so it was "hope that everything breaks right". And we got enough breaks in the regular season to get an extra game.
But as stated above, we suck against teams with explosive offenses. And we probably got the most explosive offense in the playoffs (although there are at least 3 good ones left in the AFC).Comment

I dislike the "hostages" thing.
But maybe he was going to make enough of a stink to get released. But I don't get why we don't just sit a guy and suspend him. I thought that's what we should have done with AB too when we couldn't get a 1st round pick.
And maybe it means that you get other UFAs to come cheap.
But I really disliked trading him to KC especially.Comment

I think this is such an important element for teams to think about these days. The cap hit of a long tenured quarterback is quite large. A young QB who can unbalance a defense with his feet may bring more overall value to a team than a 35 yo qb with over a decade of experience, a strong arm but a massive cap hit.
I think we might see fewer and fewer QBs playing beyond 35 and teams look for read-option type QBs who will be in the league for 10 or so years. In response to his pleas, an officer said: "You think we've never arrested somebody that's made national media? ... We deal with the Bengals all the time."

Sure. Playing hard nosed with them is an option. But come free agency good luck trying to get good ones to sign with a team that sits guys rather than let them go if things don't work out. And besides, if he is benched he's no use to the team anyway.I dislike the "hostages" thing.

One thing Noll shined at was letting guys go if he didn't think their performance matched their talent.Comment

Come on. 187 views. There has to be a few ‘no talent’ fans that can show me all the terrible drafts posts…How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?Comment
