Every year some team wants to talk to Omar.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

Sounds like we were OK with him leaving last year. He just got screwed by a horrible process in Houston...while they were negotiating a contract for him to be the GM.

Khan has been interviewing for GM jobs as far back as 2013. I'm sure they've thought about/prepared for his departure in one way or another.

There is a new rule where if a minority is hired from your organization to be a GM, your team gets two third round draft picks. I'm not sure if they're allowed to block people from interviewing for promotions anyway. I know they changed the rule for coordinators a couple years ago but not sure if anything is in place for FO people.

I think we’re saying the same thing.

I think Kahn counts as a minority in the NFL formula. I think that means we'd get two 3rd round picks (in consecutive years) if he was hired by someone else.

I don't think that should be the deciding factor. But in a case like ours, it may provide an incentive to promote Hunt if we think they're comparable. Then we get a GM that's comparable and the two comp picks from the NFL (or Kahn stays on if he can't get a GM job).

I think that's the opposite of what the rule is supposed to do, but there are always unintended consequences. And anytime you make a system, someone will try to game it.

I think the team that hires him gets the picks, not the team who loses him....but I could be wrong.

I also don't know (I would assume but again don't know) if the Steelers hiring Khan would allow the team to receive the same award of picks. If the idea is to split the job between him and Hunt, it only makes sense that the title of GM goes to Khan.

That was the original proposal. The one that was approved gave the picks to the team they were hired from to "incentivize developing minorities within their organization" or something like that.

Cool, didn't know. So does that mean the Steelers would not receive picks by promoting him?

I think this is the case.

My understanding is that you get picks if a minority you develop gets hired to a better position (executive of coach) on another team.

But it's a new rule and I don't really understand the specifics.

He didn’t say he was perfect.

Every GM has a few misses and a stinker or 2. Law of averages probably has Colbert near the top.

Also have to factor in where the Steelers usually draft.

No doubt ; but Colbert IS the culture here and has been for a long time. He’s the only reason anything positive has came from this team the last 13 years.

His bargain basement approach to putting together an offensive line as of late has been the most frustrating. Hopefully we clean that up going forward .

I don't think this was the result of his preference.

It's the result of (1) extending Ben to the last contract and then (2) doing a max restructure 2 years ago to go all in to try to win a championship. These two things combined to make it so that Ben had the biggest cap hit of any player in the league going into the season.

All while covid and the reaction to it cause the cap to be far less than what they expected it to be when they made the decision to extend Ben.

So we cobbled together a playable roster that could maybe do something if everything broke right. And somehow, most things did break right and we get a chance in the tournament.

I think the players, the coach, and the GM all did a good job this year making chicken salad out of the situation we were in.
