Madden never could get that loss out of his craw.

    Overrated coach, decent broadcaster. RIP

Funny thing is that had Tatum had sense enough to know how to do anything but try to kill people HE could have made an EASY play on the ball.

That is what made Donnie Shell the better safety. Shell could put the hit on too, ask Earl Campbell. But he ALSO was outstanding at playing the ball.

yep, and i've never seen a gaider fan admit that.

about 15 years ago i was at a bar where they were simulcasting an NYC sports talk radio show.
fomer raider LB villipiano (grew up in that area) was being interviewed.

he cried about as much as madden did when the host brought up the steelers

RIP Madden!! Was a good announcer.
I hated the Raiders back in the day like I hate the Ratbirds now…

Instead he taught Tatum to head hunt and go for the kill.

          Franco says thx coach.
          This is simply not true.

Maddens Raiders were not "borderline" dirty.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

          TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

For me it is not close. I do not have a fraction of the hate towards the Ravens as I had for the Raiders of the 70s.

Hawaii fans tend towards west coast teams. Back in the day those Raiders were very popular so PLENTY of people I grew up with were Raider fans. We went at it all the time.

And 70s Raider players would disrespect the Steelers in interviews, calling us "soft" etc. Nothing better than to shut their yappers with a win. Nothing worse than losing to them in 1976.

That plus the FACT that they were the dirtiest scumbags I have ever seen in sport....
I have NEVER hated an NFL team like those 70s Raiders.

I STILL hate losing.to them even though the actual rivalry is past tense.

            Want me to bash Tomlin?

I don't for the life of me know how we lose to lesser Raider teams ALL THE TIME under Tomlin.

I have always contended the "he always gets beat by lesser teams" narrative is overblown.

But it ABSOLUTELY APPLIES to our record against the Raiders. I hate that.

                2) Johnson holds up the ball to the opposing sideline after the play. Taunting.

But Maddens actual claim was that the ball hit Frenchy first (not Tatum) which would make the catch illegal back then if true.

The fact that Frenchy never answers and just gives a sly grin when asked if the pass bounced off him is all I need to hear to get a strong feeling the touchdown was not the only "score" we got on the play.
The ball never hit Frenchy. If it did it would never have had the "richcet" effect it did. It also did not hit the ground. I saw a show a while back that a Mechanical Engineer actually proved that for the ball to change direction with that force and distance it could not have hit Franchy, who was going in the same direction roughly as the ball. Basics phyics would not allow it.

I also have a new clip that clears this up once and for all. I'll see if I can post it.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

Hopefully this works and is posted correctly. This is like the Zupruder film for the Raiders. The ball never hit Frenchy nor the ground. Not sure what other evidence you would need. Go full screen and watch the entire clip. Case closed.

I'd never seen this before. Thanks.

Looks like they got it right on the field.
