In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

I think what is dragging him down in the eyes of the media is the '20 pts/gm curse'. The Steelers are 2-6 since last Dec. when scoring <20 pts in a game. Since the QB can most affect the score, Roethlisberger gets thrown into the also-rans of QBs. On the other hand when they score >20 pts they are 4-0 in the same time frame.
If you include all of last season's games the Steelers are 14-0 when scoring more than 20 pts. If they can figure out how to break through this barrier this team can be a strong post season contender.Comment

This is why I don’t discuss Tomlin because you Tomlin supporters are inconsistent.
You got a coach who can’t win a playoff game and gets out coached by whatever playoff coach he faces. And loses but him losing consistently over a decade is okay.
There won’t be further discussion by me. Just wanted to point out the hypocrisy by you and others.Comment

Yet Tomlin has only won 3 playoff games in 11 years. But you defend that.

Just like your sig. You gonna get in the ring slap people and run.
Answer?
There is no hypocrisy. Nobody is judging QBs by their history of winning Superbowls in the last decade. THAT would be hypocritical.
When he said “winning” he is talking this season. Ben should be higher on that basis.
He was defending Ben as not being a basement dweller based on wins this season.
You?
You came into the last TWO seasons not expecting us to make the playoffs, and UNLESS TCFCLTC (The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher) CAN WIN THE SB with this same team YOU will continue to call for his head?
We have perhaps the least talented team (good players in their prime) in the division, much less a team to even challenge for a SB.
The idea that the only thing keeping us from being anointed annual SB champion is a coach is ridiculous.Last edited by Captain Lemming; 11-08-2021, 12:18 AM.sigpic

You wanna be consistent by YOUR standard?
Nick Foles is better than Aaron Rogers by the standard you set for TCFCLTC.Last edited by Captain Lemming; 11-08-2021, 12:18 AM.sigpic

And is the QB more important than the HC?
And if the HC is more important than the players, why does it matter if he won a SB with players drafted when another coach was there?Comment

You lack the ability of context and reading comprehension to understand why this point makes zero sense. Not surprised you don’t want to have a back and forth on this.
No one was talking about the playoffs in regards to these current rankings for Ben. We are talking about the regular season. I wouldn’t bring up how “winning is all that matters” if we were discussing rankings for playoff QB’s.
If you can’t discuss Ben and his recent success after a slow start its fine.. I know you have a hard time when the team starts winning and you have to up your dosage of Tomlin hate to stay sane.Steelers 27

Vs some of his contemporaries (other guys who are / will be / could be? in the HoF that played in a similar era):
Granted, I am always hesitant to cherry pick playoff games over the entire body of work. But Ben's INT% does go up a lot in the playoffs. I had a post on this sometime in the off season. I believe that post showed Ben has the biggest increase in INT% in the playoffs of just anyone as good as he is in the era he's played in (Favre is similar).Player Ints/Playoff Game INT% Ben 1.27 3.8 Brady 0.86 2.2 Rogers 0.62 1.7 Brees 0.83 2.1 Eli 0.75 2.3 Rivers 0.83 2.5 Warner 1.07 3.0
This won't convince anyone (because we've looked at this before many times), but part of the reason we've struggled in playoff games when we didn't have a dominant defense is that we turn the ball over more than other teams in the playoffs (2.5% reg to 3.8% playoffs).
And before someone asks, I also included his INT% (INTs/ATTs). It's the highest of the bunch, so his higher INT/game isn't driven by increased attempts.
As everyone has always said, Ben is most comparable to Favre who has similar numbers (int/game: 1.25, INT% 3.8%).
We live by the sword and die by the sword with Ben. So many amazing moments "what the hell are you...oh....oh...TD! What an amazing play!!! He's the best ever!!!!!"
This is just the downside. He doesn't have the elite ability to extend the play anymore.
I think he's the most entertaining QB I've ever watched. And I'm all but positive he'll be the best Steelers QB I'll ever get to see play. But turnovers (especially ones that go for TDs) can be disastrous in single elimination tournaments.Last edited by Northern_Blitz; 11-08-2021, 10:48 AM.Comment
