You basically had to exercise the 5th year option without having seen him play in your system knowing that he wasn't that good in his previous system (which granted was a terrible team).

That option is just under $19M. That a lot for a guy who is bad at QB.

But I guess that's the thing about QBs. They're so valuable that you have to take huge risks even though they have a negative expected value.
Not sure why they moved on from Teddy. While he was a placeholder I really can’t see how anyone saw Darnold and thought it was an upgrade.

      We will see.

What it really comes down to is the OC. Will Joe Brady try to make Cam into a drop back passer or let him run the read option and use his legs?

The OL is trash so maybe his mobility will bring back a bit of the old Cam.

looks like this is Darnold's last year in Carolina.

the Panthers paid a steep price for a one year sub-par rental.

I guess if you've only got a placeholder, might as well try out someone else to see if they're legit.

At least I think that's a reasonable argument to try Haskins vs. Rudolph. Although again, the benefit of the Haskins experiment is that it doesn't really cost us anything if he fails.

but they had a top 10 draft puck and could’ve had Mac Jones or Fields.. instead they traded for

            SAM DARNOLD

and had to bring Cam back.

I'd imagine they wouldn't do that again if they had the choice.

Never a good idea to trade magic beans for beans you are already pretty sure aren't good (or maybe new lottery tickets for ones that are already mostly scratched and look like they have little chance of panning out).

Better to pick magic beans / mostly scratched lotto tickets off the street like we did with Haskins. Probably not going to work out. But at least they were basically free.

They should fire their GM midseason. The guy is not good.
