Now, what I hate is hiring an untested OC and offensive line coach to coach the linemen and put together an offense with these young guys. The Steelers needed experience and leadership somewhere for the linemen and there isn't any. Canada may become a good OC but not with this group, he probably would have benefited from an experienced line. So, untested OC and line coach, rookie LT and C, promising but under performing (so far) LG, high draft pick but bounced around RG and whatever Chuks is right now is the recipe for a bumpy ride to start. I have faith they will all figure it out and begin to work as a unit, stop with dumb penalties and gel as a unit by years end.

Hopefully, that, at least has the Steelers in the hunt for a playoff spot.

That’s easy to back track now and say these things seeing things look bad.
Most people were blaming those 3 olinemen for being washed up and wanted them gone. To say we’d be happy with them is not true.
I also know most fans were blaming fitchner for everything and were thrilled with Canada. As I said, they said he had the answers.
There also were a few fans that wanted oline drafted the last few years and wanted them drafted in the first couple rounds this year so they would develop a year it two under those vets or were drafted early this year and ready to start and be good.
Those fans were called ‘not real fans’ by the ‘real fans’ because they didn’t go along with the skill position picks.
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?

Exactly. Certain posters in here constantly criticized me because I wanted to go O-line with more legitimate prospects this year. I wanted to go O-line last year. Not to say Claypool isn’t a talent but we have always been able to find wide receivers.

Most people were blaming those 3 olinemen for being washed up and wanted them gone. DeCastro and Pouncey were bad and the future wasn't going to get better with them. Pappy's on point though. It's best to have a vet mentor rather than newbies trying to figure it out for themselves. Maybe you keep one of them on as a backup? Salary cap and retirement didn't let that happen. To say we’d be happy with them is not true. I would NOT be happy with them as starters.
I also know most fans were blaming fitchner for everything and were thrilled with Canada. As I said, they said he had the answers. Mis-statement I think. Fichnter's offense was bad and it was time for a change. While Canada was tabbed, I think fans would have been happy with other decent OCs as well. We won't know whether Canada will be better for at least another season.

Those fans were called ‘not real fans’ by the ‘real fans’ because they didn’t go along with the skill position picks. Not sure who this is referring to....?? Plenty of fans wanted OL starting a couple years ago. The extension of Roethlisberger I think changed the team's direction on drafting the last few years. Could have been completely different if he was out.

I don't mean last year's version of them, I picked those 3 because they came to mind and they were good linemen at one time. My point was that Green and Moore needed someone like those 3 when they were good to help Green and Moore learn from mistakes, avoid mistakes, and lead the unit. Canada or Fitchner, either would be struggling, imo, I just wish they would have hired someone with experience that may have been through something like this. This is very unusual for the Steelers to turnover that many players from one unit in one offseason.

I admit, I was hoping for the best tackle available when they chose Harris and I probably would have taken the best available center in round 2, I am one that firmly believes build the line and the running game will follow. Even still, they would have been rookies and having growing pains because there would still be a lack of veteran leadership. The Steelers didn't opt for more polished linemen, that's their business, I support the Harris and Freiermuth picks now, they're Steelers and I hope they are wildly successful.

I don't care about the petty argument ya'all are having about fans, real fans, not a fan, have at it, it's irrelevant.

I wonder if that means that the loss of DD was bigger than just his play on the field (which wasn't all that great last year).

I wonder what the off season would have looked like if that decision happened much earlier in the process (like Pouncey). I think we really got caught off guard (pun intended) with him not being able to come back.

The do have Turner though. But I agree that vet leadership is much better when the vet is at (or near) his peak.

From the looks of it the Steelers will be picking in the TOP 15.

2022 looks like a Battle between Rudolph & Haskins. Unless someone jumps out or falls (QB that is) I believe the Steelers will look at Haskins as their 1st round pick and go with an O-Lineman.

I believe that was a favor for Dungy.

I can’t even remember if that was before or after Philly.

That's how I see it too. The good news is, with Haskins or Rudolph, we'll finish next year with a top 10 pick too. Maybe the QB class will be better that year

When I heard people hyping Sam Howell for the Heisman I laughed.

I think most of these people just looked at his stats and highlights but never watched him play.

I had to watch UNC since I live in NC and that dude rarely plays sound football. Its mostly once they are down double digits and he has a chance to chuck it every down that he looks decent. He rarely plays well with a lead and UNC always plays down to competition.

When Mack Brown said their players didn’t want an expended playoff because it was more games I laughed.. they don’t even like playing their regular schedule and usually take 3 games off every year.

I agree with what you have said, but I would change the word "difficult" to "early". It may take longer to find out if these guys are NFL linemen, but eventually they will have to be held to task. When all is said and done, they may fail spectacularly and we could say that had they been put in a better situation the may have succeeded, but they still have failed.

If that's the result for this season then that is how I hope it goes. It will be much easier for the next long-term QB to play behind a sound line with a run game than to toss him behind anything resembling today's line.
