Americans have been sold this idea that its normal to grieve for a week and then go back to work.

I know the world keeps spinning but I think we should be asking why we don’t give people in high stress jobs more time off instead of using it as an example of why Tuitt should be back already.

He will never be the same and we have no idea what that man is going through or what he see’s when he closes his eyes at night.

IMO we should be doing the exact opposite.
It is terrible true. Dude might NEVER be the same.

That said, do you think it should be MONTHS Dizz. How long should bereavement be?

At some point, if you wanna get paid...you gotta do your job.

If you can't to you job, after a reasomable time it is not your employers responsibility.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

It depends on the employee and the situation.

Some industries let you take up to a year off for a serious matter if you file the paperwork.

I’m not talking about an elder passing away.

You see your family member killed
Your SO is raped during a break in
Your kid dies in a weird accident

Yeah.. I think its okay to take months off and companies should have safety nets in place for those types of traumatic experiences.

        Take a year off?
You ain't getting paid time off are you?

The ONLY way that happens is if you are indispensable. In that case it is not compassion but self interest.

People say MJ quit for his baseball thing because of his dad's death, associated basketball with his dad.

That is fine...just quit and take care of you. Don't expect a company to sponsor you.

If you get a month company gets a gold star for compassion in my book.

FMLA gives you up to 12 weeks off and you dont lose your benefits.

My wife’s principal just used it to care for her sick father.

I think MJ made the move to baseball because of his gambling problems but who knows. Its never good to use athletes for this stuff because once injured they still receive full pay even though they are of no use to the “company”

I don’t view this as sponsoring, I see it as investing. If you have a great employee why abandon them during a traumatic experience.

Also believe one family member of a military family gets extended time off to grieve for the death of a loved one or to take care/rehab an injured soldier.

There's evidence that says getting back to life's activities is good for a person after a traumatic loss.

FMLA has nothing to do with death. It's for the living and breathing that are in need.
