I think people liked that he took a pay cut to reduce his cap hit (mostly next year).

I think they thought that DD would be back and that his decline last year was medical. But OT was still a huge question mark (as was C).

I still think that TE was a luxury pick we probably shouldn't have gone for with such big needs on OL. But maybe he was BPA on our board. And a good TE might help with the rebuild.
