Tomlin punts on 4th and 1

8 minutes to go in the game. Tomlin punts on 4th and 1? Didn't even try to get them off sides vs. a team that had its share of penalties. A yard? Please explain why? Coaching was as issue yesterday. Coach to win. If we don't win fans won't bitch much but at least try. At this point I'd scarp to old game plan and play like we are down a score. No blocked punts to save us....

we did get the ball back and kicked a FG, but a lot of time had run off the clock by then.

I disagreed with Tomlin's decision, seems like he was living in his fears.

however, it's easy to second guess. if he goes for it there and doesn't make it he would have gotten blasted for that.

They burned 3 minutes and then kicked it back to us.

if we tried and failed then Tomlin is an idiot for not punting.

and its not like a few plays would have us in FG position if we made it. We were still at our 30. I could see if we never got the ball back after punting but we did. We scored and then we couldn’t stop the Raiders the next drive until they burned too much clock.

The problem with this type of thinking is everything has to go right after we make that 4th and 1. Of course hindsight tells us if we went for it the Raiders would’ve imploded but that was doubtful given all the injuries to our defense.

I don’t remember too many knees taken in defeat.

Usually its a run up the middle or a pass attempt.

It's a bit foolish to complain about the 4th and 1 because it probably doesn't matter. The bigger game management impact was the decision of whether or not to go for 2 on the Harris TD.

I didn't watch the broadcast, but I wonder if the talking heads said something about this and that's what's leading to all the outrage. I think that's what happened in the on-side kick in the playoff game against the guys that wear teal. I think that was the better decision at the time, but the commentators said it was bad and so that became the talking point.

Your point is valid but there as so many other issues that are wrong with this team that Tomlin's lack of testicular fortitude isn't on the front burner for now.

Thats just it, we were deep in our own territory, if we go and dont make it they are going to be able to burn clock already in position to score points.
