I'm not quite sure what you are expecting, OL-wise. At this point, they are pretty much going with who they have, and once Banner comes back, the OL should be fine.

OL is NOT the group of positions where you can just bring in someone new and get them to start immediately. There needs to be cohesion there, and the guys that just went thru training camp together are the best ones at this point. I'm not looking for them to sign any on OL, unless its someone that played with the group before- Ala Villanueva-like. Or if there is a major injury somewhere. I think with Friermuth at TE, he's a good blocker, they may be ok going forward.

Liked him coming out. Big triangle guy. Some upside. Don't love giving away future picks however we are thin at cb so this should help.

        Started 12 games in 2018.

that’s a pretty good job by Colbert getting a forger starter for a 6th rd pick.

Even if he has sone questions about his game. That’s a decent price to take a gamble on

          Witherspoon is a boundary corner.

this means Sutton goes to the slot, and that the Steelers don't have faith in Justin Layne.

This is a move for the dime defense only. They are set at nickel with players already here. BUF will play a lot of 4 WR sets so expect to see dime quite a bit. CIN is another team that used 4 WRs against the PIT defense.

              From a Niners fan:

First the bad news: Akhello is injury prone. That said, you guys have him on a short-term deal (1 year IIRC) so there's little downside. The positives: Akhello is tall and fast; any "issues" you read about are unrelated to injury and were blown out of proportion by the various talking heads. When healthy he can single-cover WR1s. He won't win every matchup but he's solid.

Akhello played great as a rookie, then in 2019 -the year we went to the SB- he was playing very well until he got injured in the first half of the season; he actually had a good game against you guys before the injury.

During the 2020 season he got hurt again and made the mistake of trying to play through the injury (home game vs Dolphins, it ended badly). This is what burned the bridge between him and Shanahan. Akhello eventually came back, played well towards the end of the year, but he was already persona non grata. When stuff like this happens it's fair to question not only the player but the coach's methods; Kyle often criticizes players in public which really isn't the best way to build trust. An injured player shouldn't think he has to risk re-injury to get out of his coach's doghouse.

As if all this wasn't enough, a 49ers veteran publicly piled on: Donte Whitner, who was at best an above average safety, went on local TV and called Akhello "soft"
. That was the same Donte Whitner who couldn't stop anyone in the 2013 NFC title game vs Seattle & gave up an insane Hail Mary TD to Russell Wilson. Bad bad form... Imagine if Troy Polamalu trashed a current Steelers CB in public; why not just contact the man privately and have a frank 1-on-1 discussion?

Anyway I'm glad AW is getting a fresh start with you guys. With Tomlin & your defensive coaching staff he can play at a high level. Yes his injury history is frustrating AF but the talent is still there. I hope he does well in Pittsburgh and we finally get to see a 49ers-Steelers Super Bowl.

              Cheers!

I liked this guy at draft time as a mid round option, hopefully he pans out and sticks around for a little while

And trading low end picks for known commodities... Love it

Why play the draft pick lottery when you can trade for a guy who has proven his NFL ability already??

the only downside with this one is when the pick comes due his contract will be up ... otherwise on point when it comes to late round picks especially
@dwinsgames on twitter .... Kenny Pickett is who I thought he was ....

I read that not only giving up a 6th in 2023 but this move will also cancel the compensation pick we would have got for Flier.
which they say was going to be a 5th in 2002.

supposedly theirs a rule about this, trading for a player who signed as a free agent that year

If he's good, hope we can resign.

We will need DBs next year. Haden and Edmunds likely gone.

Ya know, I really wanted to get a re-do of the Verron Haynes pick and never see that 3rd and medium draw play again.
