McCarron out for the season with a knee injury and I think he was the primary back-up
Maybe trade Dobbs?
If they (Atlanta) take a look at who has been getting the pre-season snaps they will see that in all likelihood Dobbs is going to be a cut. Why would they trade draft capital or a player knowing there is a good chance Dobbs gets cut? I guess if they wanted to avoid competition for Dobbs. I don't really know how the acquisition of cut players works? Are they basically free agents?

Because if you get him in a trade you get him for sure. If he gets cut, potentially 30 other teams can try to get him and he gets to pick

Gotcha, that's what I was wondering and unsure about. Dobbs will get to audition this Friday. My guess is that he'll play the entire second half and Haskins plays the 1st half.

I think the reason a team would trade for Dobbs would be that then they wouldn't have to go to waivers.
He is cheap with some experience and could get claimed.
Maybe throwing a 6th or 7th to avoid the risk could be worth it if a team had lower waiver priority?

Dobbs has dropped from number 2 to number 3 YEARS ago. Another team foolishly traded for THEN cut him. WE picked him up from the scrap heap ourselves?
Then he won't make this team AGAIN.
You can get that kind of value off waivers ALL DAY LONG.
Nah, at this point, dude is worthless.
Nobody is giving up draft capital for Dobbs. If not Dobbs then Atlanta can just pick up another team's version of Dobbs. I can't see a GM saying "we need a number 2. Quick, call Kevin Colbert before someone else snatches up that guy who mops up the fourth Q".
IMO, the only phone call for a reliable - if we need someone to replace our starter then this guy has potential type of guy is Mason. The only way that happens is if the team is ready to accelerate Haskins to primary backup role instead of just future potential. I can't see it becoming a decision that they are willing to consider for less than a fourth, possibly a third. In that case it might be moot, but you never know if there is a GM who kinda liked MR in his draft year and has been keeping an eye on him.

I agree that it's not likely.
But that's the scenario where I think we get something for him.
You never know with QBs. And with covid, there may be more demand than usual as I think most teams usually go with 2 (unlike us who always go with 3). I think more teams kept 3 last year vs. a normal year.
But even if there is a trade, it's very low value (like a 7th).
Although I bet there's at least one person on the board who would trade him for a 2nd or 3rd.
Hopefully we can trade Rudolph. He hasn’t excited me at all this preseason.
His deep ball is nice but he still struggles to put up points and sustain drives.
I think we will keep him.
If we didn't extend him for a reasonable price, I would be for trading him. As it is, I'd want a reasonable overpayment to trade Rudolph.
But it makes sense to keep him around to compete for the starting position next year. It at least locks us in at something like low end starter QB.
I'm hoping that Haskins beats him out next year, but it's not a sure thing so we should keep him on the payroll IMO. At present, Rudolph is probably more likely to be the starter at the beginning of next season.
Another thing to consider is the waiver order. After final cuts on 8/31, teams have until 4:00 on 9/1 to make a claim. The Falcons are way up the list at 4. Jaguars, Jets and Texans are the only teams ahead of them. May be willing to risk the other three won't sign him.

Good point.
Add the fact that he is available because WE just scooped up an ELITE TALENT with franchise potential off waivers...what makes Dobbs SO SPECIAL that he is worth trading for?

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:
TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

This is a great point.
Would need to be someone else who (1) really likes Dobbs (2) thinks that Atlanta would snag him.
