The WR room is a log jam right now. I'm suspecting Ray Ray should be feeling real uneasy with a new guy taking his ST role:

I hope we don't get rid of Ray Ray without a good plan for returns.
Seems like last year was the first year in a while where our return game didn't suck.
I'd rather have a better returner in that last spot vs. a better WR. -

The Steelers beat the Lions 26-20 on Saturday night at Heinz Field. Let's take a look at the Steelers who are rising and falling as the preseason rolls on:
Rising
• Rookie tight end Pat Freiermuth was introduced with the starting offense before the game along with veteran Eric Ebron. After he made two touchdown catches in the first quarter, it’s fair to wonder if he’ll leap over Ebron on the depth chart and be thestarting tight end when the Steelers open the regular season in Buffalo in a few weeks. Ebron didn’t help himself on the first drive when he dropped a third-down pass from Roethlisberger. Later in the second quarter, he was called for illegal procedure. The Steelers are going to play with two tight ends a lot, but when they want to play with three receivers, it’s hard to see how Ebron adds more value than Freiermuth. In fact, it’s looking rather obvious Freiermuth should play more than Ebron.
• Melvin Ingram continues to look more and more comfortable after signing with the Steelers just before training camp started. Once T.J. Watt returns from his “hold-in,” the Steelers are going to designate a starter on the right side. Ingram and Alex Highsmith are vying for that job. Ingram drew a holding penalty in the first quarter and dropped running back Dedrick Mills for a 3-yard loss in the second quarter. And throughout, he created pressure going up against tackle Penei Sewell, the No. 7 overall pick in this year’s draft. Ingram and Highsmith will see plenty of playing time regardless of who is named the starter, but Ingram isn’t showing any ill effects after a knee injury ended his season with the Chargers last year.
• Mathew Sexton is making a strong push to be the punt returner and No. 5 receiver. Two weeks after returning a punt 36 yards against the Cowboys, Sexton had a 47-yard return against the Lions. Sexton is in a battle with Ray-Ray McCloud, who handled the punt return duties last season. The Steelers haven’t used Sexton much on offense, but they can figure that out on the go if he continues to look electric on punt returns.
