On to two. Targets.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.
Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.
*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***Tags: None -
There is a ton of talent there in round 2.
Man, the center position might slide even further, could the 1st Center fall to us. ( I am not sure who might need a center)
Do you trade back if Humphrey, Dickerson, Meinerz are all there at 55?
Or do take one?
Or do you pass hoping one falls to us at 87?

If you can get the #1 center and the #1 back, I say take them and don't look back. They already have the #1 RB so scoring the #1 center would be icing on the cake. I'm almost 100% certain that one of the top 3 centers will be available at 2.55. I don't see a run on centers happening. The Steelers just need to wait out the 2nd round and see how it shakes out. If a center they don't like is there, then they'll have their pick of very good tackles. It seems that the draft is falling into their laps at exactly the positions they need. There is a ton of talent there in round 2.

Heck, they could even go best available tackle at 2.55 and probably still get one of the top 4 centers in round 3. I'd prefer the top center in R2 and then a tackle in R3 but wouldn't be opposed to tackle then center either. I will be disappointed if they don't beef up the offensive line in R2 and R3. I know the defense could use some love but since they are going with an immobile quarterback, it's best they give him the best opportunity to be able to stand in the pocket and make throws. He will need more than 2.2 seconds to look things over.

Pappy is 100% on the mark. If the #1 Center on your board is there, don't play cute. Stick to the board.
I'd also do Cnter in Round 2 and then Spencer Brown or Stome Forsythe at OT in Round 3."My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

Ultimately I think it depends on how much you think separates the three. And how confident you are in Dickerson's injury history.
I think it sounds like Dickerson is the best player.
But I Humphrey is probably still very good with far less risk.
Who is the better pick between the two?
My guess is that the board will decide for us (or maybe make it so we aren't able to choose either of them).Comment

Totally agree. Everything looks like a go for us. Our first two picks should be day 1 starters for us as well.If you can get the #1 center and the #1 back, I say take them and don't look back. I wouldn’t mess around either if the best center in the draft is available to us at 55; grab him and look forward to going OT in the next couple of picks. But if someone like Cosmi is there, they may pull the trigger.Comment

agree mostly - While I'd personally love to see that happen, i'm not sure if the team going offense 3 straight picks. If you can get the #1 center and the #1 back, I say take them and don't look back. It's not unprecedented, but Tomlin and this FO has gone 3 straight on the same side of the ball only once to start off a draft. And they came away with Artie Burns, Sean Davis and Javon Hargrave (at least he was a good selection). I suspect that they felt like the reached and it left a bad taste in their mouths.
My guess is day 2 leads to one pick on each side of the ball - if a stud C is there at 2.55, I agree, they take him. But then I'd expect round 3 to be on the other side of the ball... not an absolute, just a reflection on the team's tendencies.2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

The Steelers might be better off going Center in round two, just because there are some tackles who can start for us in round three, but few centers can. There is a ton of talent there in round 2.

I like Quinn Meinerz or Creed Humphrey in round two. Either man can push a pile, and loves to play. Meinerz to me has pro bowl tools but needs more refinement and Humphrey to me is close to plug and play and will easily upgrade the team over Finney or whomever the Steelers played last year a center. Odds are good we can get one of these two, or roll the dice on Dickerson the talented, but injured often Alabama center. So I feel good about checking the center box with one of these three, which odds sy we can get in round two. I don't do injury reports, but personally I would steer away from Dickerson without known how severe the injuries were. Don't roll the dice unless you have too early.
So we can have two rookie starters. RB and Center. Bam!
For round three, I want to go with the best blocking TE in Tommy Tremble, or a Tackle with better ability than say Banner or Chucks, which you can find in round three or four. This is a very deep tackle call.
I'm willing to trade a top blocking TE, who can act as the 5th or 6th best receiving option on the team, which is exactly what Ebron is, and broom the drops, penalties, and weak blocking Ebron provides.
A TE who can block is part of the cure for what we had to play last year.
Harris is going to be a yardage man in the pass, far better than what we have. With Harris, he has excellent hands and a really good feel for the passing game. His catches are going to come at the expense of some ones's, why not the erratic Ebron's?Last edited by Joel Buchsbaum; 04-30-2021, 10:37 AM.Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. I think we go BPA at an area of need for these next few rounds.
Sounds simple enough but I don’t want us to focus on OT in the second if there is better value at C or vice versa.
if an ILB or CB(hope not due to our history) is best value.. so be it.
I just want the best players who have a chance to see the field immediately.Steelers 27

I guess we’ll have too see how it plays out. There tend to be runs/panics on positions sometimes in the draft, and if a run starts early on OL in the 2nd you may have to try to trade up.
If I had to trade up, I’d target those teams that have 3 picks on Day Two, as they have more room to move around, and I would add a high pick from next year is capital (when we will have more FA money to get one stud to fill a hole).
To me, having a new starting C is imperative, and a starting LT this year I s a little less so.Comment
