This is good news IMO. For all the flack Vince takes for not being elite, I think he's been a steady contributor to the D.
Helps to have guys that know the system with what will probably be a short off season again.
I assume that he will be competing with Spillane for the spot. Maybe both get some PT depending on situations.
I'm guessing that would be true, but I'd be happy with both if they are interested in signing around the minimum.
My guess is that Williamson wants PT to pump up his value for next off season so he might be less interested in coming back with Vince here too.Comment

I think this might depend on situations? Williams against more run heavy teams?
The thing that always gets mentioned about Vince (aside from being a thumper) is his ability to communicate out there. But Spillane got the dot last year, right?Comment

Doesn't solve the problem of ILBs struggling to chase TEs and RBs across the field. But, he is ok in run defense.Comment

It is a bit odd that the Steelers are paying $3M+ in dead money on VW while also resigning him to a new contract. Why not just extend the guy to lower the cap hit? Did the something fall through that they decided to bring him back? Gotta be an ultra cheap deal.Comment

Maybe he wanted to test the market to see if he could get a better deal?Comment

Sounds like it. I preferred Avery based on what I wrote in the other thread. I just think he is a better player. Might have been at an impass on both and Averys giving away that he was close got Vince to agree to terms quickly.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:
