Report: Steelers interviewing Hank Fraley for OL job

Posted by Charean Williams on January 20, 2021

The Steelers are interviewing Hank Fraley for their vacant offensive line coach job, Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports.

The Steelers are not renewing the contract of offensive line coach Shaun Sarrett.

Fraley, 43, held the same job with the Lions last season.

Fraley, who played 10 NFL seasons, started his NFL coaching career as assistant offensive line coach with the Vikings from 2014-16. After one season at UCLA in 2017, Fraley returned to the NFL as the Lions’ assistant offensive line coach in 2018-19 under Jeff Davidson before Davidson left the game.

Fraley originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Steelers out of Robert Morris. He never played a down with Pittsburgh, though.

Could be misleading stats... Detroits D sucked, so they were always behind.
And their running backs might even worst than ours... AP and a rookie who seemed to be always hurt Swift.

Man, I’m on the fence with this guy.
If we hire him, I’m going to love it because he is a great coach, steelers type, tough, etc etc but if we don’t, he sucks and good riddance.
I can’t wait for the steelers to tell me what I think about him.
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?

Why are we always hiring people from Western, PA?

Or we could wait and see who they hire, then give him a bit of time to see if he can do the job. I figure that it makes more sense than determining now whether or not someone, whose work we don't know about, will succeed based on where he is from or where he's worked, or who he knows, or where he went to school. Then half the people come back and say "I knew it" in a couple of years and call out those who predicted the opposite, also with no reasonable basis.

I know that does make for good message board entertainment for some, but involves about as much skill as playing keno.

Wow...what a concept. Evaluate performance versus getting what a poster wants or thinks he wants.

Says the poster who claims every hire, draft pick and FA signing is great.

We should be looking at James Campen. Most recently he was the Chargers OLC. Longtime Packers OLC with Mike McCarthy. Put a bunch of dudes in the Pro Bowl. Josh Sitton, David Bakthiari, Chad Clifton, TJ Lang, Scott Wells etc.........

PFF Final 2020 offensive line rankings

                            13. DETROIT LIONS

Another year, another season of improved play from Frank Ragnow, who is asserting himself as one of the league’s top young interior offensive linemen. His 80.3 PFF grade in 2020 ranked second at the center position, and it came behind career-high grades both in pass protection and as a run-blocker. The fact that he played through a fractured throat late in the season only adds to the notion that this is a guy you don’t want to mess with in the trenches.

There were shuffling pieces along the line this season, but the play from both Ragnow and left tackle Taylor Decker (82.0 PFF grade) fresh off a contract extension this offseason helped stabilize the group. The Lions will be hoping for a second-year jump for Jonah Jackson at guard in 2021 to help take the unit to the next level.

With the 2020 NFL regular season now in the books, PFF's Ben Linsey ranks every offensive line in the NFL.

No, just a poster who recognizes the guys doing it know more than you which is why they get paid to do it
