I think Butler is very good at designing schemes to get pressure.

We've been dominant at generating sacks.

And we've gotten better at defending the pass.

Don't know if anyone saw the Alex K youtube video about how we struggle when teams send out a heavier package, but spread out? This seems like a pretty good explanation for why we end up getting WRs covered by LBs. This is something that we need to have an answer for as it's hurt us for multiple years.

Be curious to see if he gets another extension this off season.
He has one year remaining with another year that Rooney seemed to describe as a 2 way option.

Apparently, we've historically renegotiated with coaches when they had 2 years remaining. Wouldn't be surprised if this becomes a talking point this off season.

Wouldn't be surprised if both sides want to keep some flexibility at this point as the team might not want to extend him now and he might want to preserve options to move if he feels like the rebuild doesn't look promising.

Of course we all know how pathetic our oline players are. So can you blame those coaches?
Our special teams fall in the same range league wise as our offensive scoring yet he keeps his job.
I’m all for firing guys after underachieving, just seems like the rules don’t apply to a certain underachiever .
The bar isn't all that high, but I think we had better return yardage this year than in any time in recent memory.

Our return game has generally been bad for a while.

Usually Smith schemes up a blocked punt (or at least a few close ones) during the year. But I can't remember one this year.

My guess is that success / failure on this team isn't based on the ST coach. So I don't care if we keep or change.

And I hope we give the new OL coach some more good, young talent to work with[/QUOTE]

Looks that way to me. Get new blood to help make the picks. Make the line his as the old respected vets are moving on. I don’t think AV, Pouncey, Feiler will return. Only “old” vet in the room is DeCastro. Chuks, Banner, Dotson start of new offensive line with some rookie’s and possibly some FA lineman. Some fringe oline might get cut with the covid cap problems. Come cheap looking for work?
How does that Dotson pick look now. Very important pick at a good “price”. Hopefully they hit gold in this draft as well. Can’t take forever to rebuild the oline to respectability.

I don't think Faneca has been around the program much since he retired. But a guy who has stuck around a bit is Ramon Foster. Personally I think he would be an excellent choice. Self made guy.

Another move. TE coach James Daniel has announced his retirement.

Long career with the Steelers. 17 seasons.

Pretty sure the Steelers look past one year when drafting. In fact, I would bet the better NFL teams have a 3-4 yr roadmap of the team. BFA, the job was a lot easier. Can't imagine trying to roadmap a team these days. The Steelers fortunately keep HCs around long enough to allow them to build their vision.

I actually think they will re-sign Feiler considering he can play multiple positions and he's young.

What do you think Tomlins vision is?
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?

Strong defense and above average offense.

Wasn't he considered kinda quiet? or am I thinking of someone else.
