    Blow it up

If it were up to me, with the almost certain cap reductions that are coming, I'd get rid of Ben, Pouncey, DeCastro, Villanueva, Ebron, Vince Williams, and Haden. Cut loose of some of the golden oldies and use the money to get younger. I wouldn't pay much for Ju Ju or Conner; if they want to stay on the cheap, then OK.

Even though I can't put all the blame for this year's implosion on Tomlin, if it were me I'd give him his walking papers and go for a true fresh start. All good things must come to an end, and I think it would be appropriate to send him away at the same time as we start the rebuild. But I know the Steelers won't even consider that.

Without question Conner will be gone.

I mentioned this in the game thread, but it likely got passed over.

but the decision to trade for fitz last year was a mistake. the season was a lost once the starting qb went down. there was no way they were going anywhere with mason. We may have had a good chance to get our franchise QB in this past draft.

as good as fitz is, he's a free safety. the people in charge who thought trading for a free safety was worth more then the possibility of drafting a franchise QB need to be held accountable
look at the 2 teams that finished ahead of our defense this year (rams ravens) and see where they got their starting free safeties

whoever spearheaded and made that decision needs to be held accountable
Of course it was a mistake.

I don't know ... there's no guarantee we would have drafted a franchise QB

I thought it was stupid and reactionary at the time.

But I think I was wrong because I didn't understand the cap implications.

I get what you're saying, but it was worth the risk IMO.

We'll be bad next year and should get a reasonable shot at drafting high.

Especially since our division should be good.

And then hopefully we get a good young cheap QB as LJ and Baker move I to their second contracts.

We didn't have a crystal ball telling us Ben would be so abysmally bad this year.

it was definitely reactionary. but it did give a boost to the defense. at what cost though ?

even with a successful recovery from surgery, they had to at least think ben was nearly done.

I'd really like to know who was person still seeking that trade after ben's injury

Didn't we see this in the 2018 jags game?? Four interceptions?? We saw the same thing tonight against a lesser opponent in the Browns. Did Ben every look like he could lead us to a Super Bowl through real competition like we were going to see in the playoffs? In your opinion? Think about it; we were depending on a QB that blew his arm last year to just come back and lead us to a super bowl.

It would have been foolish not too. older QB coming off an injury with an inflated cap hit.

                              all the signs were there
