I agree that "The Standard is the Standard" means "control what you can control", but I think it also means "We don't make excuses".

A great contrast for this is Tomlin vs. Harbaugh. Both good coaches over a long period of time.

But I don't think I've seen Tomlin complaining about things like officiating after a game (in public, which is the only place I see him speak).

I think having this mentality (even if it's only outwardly) sets an example to the players that it's their job to win in spite of any of the poor calls / missed calls / acts of God or whatever.

I think this is the right approach for a coach that's trying to teach players stuff. If you lose, admit that it's on you and try to learn from it. If you blame it on something that's out of your control (e.g. PI call or whatever), then it's saying that it's not your fault so you don't have to improve.

I think it was when we lost to Cincy (but it might have been WFT). In the press conference he was talking about how nobody did well enough. But, he talked about coaching being not good enough first every time I think.

Maybe one day I’ll get to read how his Xs and Os make him a great coach instead of these little cool sayings everyone seems to be so enamored with.

no wonder James Harrison used to fall asleep in meetings listening to this horse****

I think it's funny the Ebron understands Tomlin. Ebron even pokes fun at himself referencing 'Ebronics'. Dude definitely has a different way of expressing himself.

Not to hijack the thread but I hope the Steelers can grab a good TE in the next draft. A Heath clone would do so much for this offense.
