    Roethlisberger/Steelers After Bye

    In Roethlisberger's career;
    • Steelers record after a bye: 11 - 5
    • Avg margin of victory: 6 pts
    • Tomlin's record after bye: 9 - 4
    • after bye in last 5 yrs: 3 - 2; avg margin 4 pts
    • best victory - 2008 against CIN; 38-10 (although some might say after their bye in 2004 beating NE was their best!)
    • worst loss - 2006 against SD; 13 - 23

    Technically this isn't a "bye"
A lot of starters will have to suit up.
But I get the jist of it.

But is it even a bye for Rothlisberger? All we know is that he won't be the starter but I suspect that he will still attend practices and travel to Cleveland. A "real" bye gives players the chance to go on vacation for a week and unwind.

I don't think that you can apply ANY trend in this bizzaro year of 2020. Absolutely NOTHING applies!!

The Colts game was the perfect example of why you can't take anything from what you've seen. We were done. Toast. Fork in them. The trend for multiple quarters was that this offense is just done. And then out of nowhere, they turn it on and score 3 TDs. Against a very good team.

What I think we can say with confidence is that we need our best players for the playoffs. So, giving them a bye is the right move.

It's a bye enough if it keeps him from more bodily abuse. I don't think he needs a vacation. His knees need a rest. Maybe his arm. And we definitely need to make sure he's the QB in the playoffs.

After the first half I went to a local bike and hike trail for a 5 mile jog. In my mind the game was over. So why waste time watching it. When I got back home my wife told me that I missed a great 2nd half and that the Steelers won. Fortunately before I left for my jog, I recorded the game. So I dd get to watch the "miracle".

These stats make me feel a little better going into the playoffs.

But at the same time, my guy tells me Ben is going to struggle to remember how to play to at least start the first playoff game and we're gonna want to just fast forward to the 2nd half most likely. Unless the D can create lots of turnovers and score some points for us.

I really think everything is going to come down to how effective the D can be. Can the D carry us? Ben might not matter other than needing 1 or 2 positive series out of him.

Had this discussion last night. How much of a bye do you give Ben? I think he comes in every day, but I would not dress him in anything other than shorts. Only indoor training and meetings. Give him his tub and massage time. Let him leave early each day to spend some time with the kids. Tell him no champagne on New Year . No stress on the body.

Now we just wait and see who is able to return from injury this week in order to determine who can join Ben on easy street. My hopes are (in order) Heyward, TJ, Haden, Pouncey, Decastro (gotta keep our pro bowl Olinemen fresh after all). If there is more then maybe Minkah, Claypool, and anyone else who has more than just the usual bumps and bruises. It will be nice to see guys like Layne, Ola, Carlos Davis etc. get an extended look, since we didn't even get to see these guys in the pre-season.

I initially thought that building on last week's momentum was more important than rest, but now that I think about it, I've changed my mind. A week's rest will probably do the Steelers a lot more good than trying to build on last week's momentum. But if the Steelers start off poorly, I'll blame it on the inactivity.

Exactly. You want the right answer? I'll let you know a week Monday.
