What if we drafted Dobbins, not Chase?

Lab has an article that is pretty interesting. He recalled the angst not just over the fact we passed on Dobbins, but how horrified people were that the Ravens got him.

People love our pick of Claypool now. We all see his value to us. But of note is that the Ravens admitted they had interest in Claypool.

If we drafted Dobbins...Claypool might be a Raven!!!!

Big, fast. He was apparently owning our small corners during camp.

And I don't want to hear about Lamar accuracy. The biggest help for that is a gigantic catch radius. Lamarvalready loves throwing to tight ends.

Yet another reason to respect the experts who saved us from a terrible scenario.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Claypool appears to be a difference maker. Claypool should get better once he learns how to play WR in the NFL. Dobbins appears to be just another RB.

A little (far) too early to shout victory about CC over Dobbins; he's barely touched the ball at this point. We know really nothing about Dobbins NFL future at this point. And if we are going to be honest, the RB we did take hasn't even made a fart skid mark to this point either. Some were claiming McFly would be a better NFL RB than Dobbins. No evidence of that yet either.

My thought has nothing to do with how good Dobbins will be which has yet to be determined.

My point is not to imply who will have the better career (my money is on Claypool but that is not the point here.)

My thought is I ALREADY KNOW Claypool would be a bigger problem for us, because that team has no problem running in general. Dobbins best case scenario is to add to the teams greatest strength.

Claypool could GREATLY enhance their weakness as a team in a way that Emmitt Smith could not do as a Raven.

Ravens are the worse team in the league at getting the ball to the WR’s. Claypool would be just a guy in that receiving corps if the Ravens got him.

I’ve yet to see Dobbins enough to have an opinion on him in our backfield but if he was such a difference maker , wouldn’t we’d have seen that by now on that team because they run so much?

I'll take Claypool over Dobbins, glad we got CC and the Ravens didn't.

I dont know; usually if a runningback has “it” we see it by now. But he has time. We’ll see.

The most prolific RB in the HISTORY of the NFL, Emmitt Smith, wasn't showing any signs of being the best RB ever in his 1st 6 NFL weeks either.

Did Emmitt Smith and Terrell Davis set the world on fire by their 6th week of their careers?

Good points ; that’s why I said we’ll see. But if he plays this week, he won’t show it against us. We’re shutting down the run and keeping LJ in the pocket and daring him to beat us with his arm.

you nailed it there. they loved throwing to hurst, andrews.
boykin is another big body at WR who graduated from notre dame the year before, so you know they scouted CC just by drafting boykin
don't forget that there was talk about him lining up at TE too.
big guys that can block for their running attack while being able to catch the ball downfield

I have little doubt balt would have selected clay

i think our pick threw them off a bit cause we never saw claypool's name floated to us. so much so they took a RB with a 2nd round pick coming off a year with a ridiculous rushing attack

Maybe your right; Boykin sure has been a big hit for them. All those catches he has and TD’s.

The league is a difference place today than it was during Smith's time in the league. I believe teams pass more today than they did in the 90's. Teams value WRs more than they do RBs in today's NFL.

WR's with Claypool's size and speed are rare. The only reason he wasn't drafted higher was probably due to the fact that there was a run on WRs before he was drafted.

emmit was starting by game 2 of his rookie year

TD started 6th on the depth chart in training camp and was the starter by the opening game
