So do I, haha. Buzz, my only reason is from watching him play a handful of games (4-5) and seeing him standout in those games. My feeling is that he’s a more natural fill for that dimebacker role or as an in the box S. His coverage is not great by any means but like Hilton, Edmunds, etc. is okay with the short stuff and underneath zones—don’t ask him to cover downfield. He’s also a little shorter and a little heavier than Allen, packing a little more size/strength to fight with the TEs (the PI calls are far fewer when TEs are involved-they get in some pretty significant battles). He’s also a real good blitzer. Allen really hasn’t done anything at all (hasn’t really even made an ST impact) and Dangerfield is a good ST guy. Doesn’t take much to be an improvement on them, even if he’s a good ST guy and gets 10 snaps or so a game on D.

I’ve liked him on film, despite some obvious warts (hey, he’s a 6th rounder).

So, to be totally honest, I can’t tell you he’ll be better

I completely agree. We didn't get an ILB in the draft. Barron knows the system and despite the hate he gets from some he wasn't a bad player last year.

Ulysses Gilbert isn't the answer this year.

I really like Gilbert's upside... but am not sure if he's up to being the #1 behind both VW and Bush this year. Bringing back Barron will allow Gilbert to ease into a primary back up role... while lessening our chances of having to call someone off of the couch mid season to start for us.

Really stinks that we can't have all the offseason and preseason work with these guys this year ... Gilbert is one who could have really benefitted from it. I still have high hopes for him.

I agree. He's one of those guys that could really benefit from it. Same with Skipper, Ola, etc etc.

Gilbert may be the answer. We don't know what management is thinking in that regard. But judging by the actions of the FO, they are not worried about it. So Gilbert may be that guy.

I agree with you Ernie and Buzz. But at least it will even across the board for all teams in the league.

I’m not sure what the writer of that article wants.

we have 2 recent former first round picks at safety.
did he want to use another high pick to be their back up?

if they did use a 3rd rounder on a safety instead of OLB, would he then complain about the depth behind bud and TJ?

theres back ups there from last year just like every team has.
If he’s worried about playing back ups if the starters get injured.
then welcome to the NFL in 2020, every team has that problem
