    Morning After Draft Thoughts

I love this draft based on 3( Claypool, Dotson, McFarland) of the 6 picks, the other 3 pending...

The Steelers came out of the draft with accomplishing all their goals going into the draft. The first goal was to draft 2 playmakers with speed who are touchdown makers, something that our team lacked last year post AB. ( feels like he left ages ago) The second goal was depth and development players.

    Claypool

I love the Claypool pick! I first started to hear about Claypool, I was looking for possible TEs to get McDonald off the roster. It was week leading up to the N-S Bowl game, where they were talking about him switching positions to TE.

And that is where he caught my eyes, he looked like a man standing tall amongst boys. He was killing any poor soul who was inline of his blocks. He had a TD, that was thrown low, and if his QB play was better would of put on a clinic.

Then BOOM at the combine he went nuts... Sparq 139 98%.... and the idea of him being a TE died, but still wowed as a WR.

This when I started to think what is really the differnece of a BIG WR vs Receiving TE, and started to tease the thought of him playing that role.

Do you guys remeber how Rooney said he wanted an efficient run game. We ( including myself) were blaming the RBs suck and that OL is old was the reason why. It was Craig Wolfleys' article who changed my perception of this, he was blaming the young skill players in missing chips and blocks, and they made everyone look bad.

    Your solution ladies and gentlemen...
A BIG PHYSICAL RECEIVER who could seal off the blocks to support the run game, and has the speed and athletism to take the top off the defense!
    WIN, WIN, WIN!!!

I honestly believe that the Ravens wanted him, (a lot of mocks had him to the ravens) they wanted an upgrade over another similiar ND WR Boykin. But they got greedy and traded back thinking his value wasn't worth it at 44. Don't forget they skipped Dobbins once, only to pick him up after we took Claypool.

I am just picturing DD pulling, Watt leading Conner, and Claypool sealing the edge. There are going to be some helmets popping there!

    HIghsmith

A pick I am ok with, establishes competition among OLA and Skipper and insurance for Bud. At worst, if he replaces becomes Chicko, the 3rd OLB for his entire careernit was a good pick.. a #3 OLB is important.

    McFarland
This dude is speed and has break away TD ability every time he touches it. .
Great compliment with Conner and Snell. Time to move away from Samuels.
Something we haven't had since fast Willie, did I mention speed.

He played hurt last year.. the year before he killed OSU and they had Young and Bosa... ( after that game I remember I was thinking I wish we had a weapon like that)

    Dotson

This dude is a steeler through and through... life time steeler fan... Everyone is gouling over him...

He is a mauler, earth mover, people killer! Even the OL coach opened the idea of him competeing at LG this year...

    Brooks

For being a 6th round pick he might have a biggest influence on our D... can he play strong safety and have Edmunds play the Big Nickel and dimebacker? Or does he play the dimebacker... so intreging.... he is a physical hitter always around the ball. ( is that a good think? are defenses picking on him?)

    Davis

Not your true NT which I like... very athletic...

One more reason I think the running game blew last year. I started thinking about it and watching for it one game (I think it was a primetime game) where the graphic came up that mentioned how close to the LOS Steeler QBs were throwing the ball. After that I watched and Ds knew it as well. They crowded the LOS. The D could bring tacklers from any direction because they were all so close and maybe the O line just didn't know where the D was coming from.

It was obviously bad, but maybe when the linemen are only looking at 7 D instead of 9 so close to the line it would make them easier to know where to block.
