    SKL Happy Draftmas Day Mock(s)

First off I wanna touch on the QB question. Jalen Hurts is the only QB I would want at 2/49. I have watched every snap he took last year and he is an incredibly improved product over his Alabama days. He is tough, athletic, accurate and a winner. He would immediately be a sub package player and could take 5-10 snaps a game of wear and tear off BB. He will be a better Taysom Hill than Taysom Hill. However, I don't see him getting to us at 2/49 nor do I feel the Steelers want to draft a QB early this year.

Secondly. I feel we need more picks. We have too many needs to fill with this few picks. This is a very deep draft at a few positions. I do feel we will make a move of some sort to pick up extra picks.

Below are TWO mocks. The first based on the picks we currently own. The second would be based on a rumor from a long time scout friend that told me the Patriots are willing to trade all 3 thirds and a fifth for a 2nd. This would be a dream for the Steelers as the third round is loaded with talent. Here we go!!

2/49-Clyde Edwards Helaire or Cam Akers. One of these guys will be there and either would be a substantial upgrade to JC

3/102-Davon Hamilton-DT-OSU-Almost an identical player to Jason Hargrave. Probably further along at this stage due to competition.

4/124-John Simpson-OG-Clemson-Ramon Foster 2.0. Punishing run blocker on a big time program

4/135-Brandon Jones-S-Texas- incredibly smart and a great tackler. Would allow Edmunds to move to the Mark Barron role

6/198-Marquez Calloway-WR-Tennessee- Martavis Bryant without the stupidity

7/232-Kevin Davidson-QB-Princeton- Smart and accurate. Would be 3rd string QB on opening day.

    Trade Down scenario with Pats

3/87-Van Jefferson-WR-Florida-Smart, incredible hands, great routes and fast, coaches kid with NFL bloodlines

3/98-Bradlae Annae-Edge-Utah-immediate rotational pass rusher, violent dude with power and hands, poor mans Lamar Woodley

    3/100-Davon Hamilton-DT-OSU-see above

3/102-Jonah Jackson-OG-OSU-tons of experience, nice feet and position versatility, could push Wisniewski as a rookie

4/124-AJ Dillon-RB-BC- I don't love Dillon but he brings a load to the position. A faster Benny Snell.

4/135-Shaun Bradley-ILB-Temple-tough instinctive football player and a good athlete. Temple's best defensive player.

5/172-Tanner Muse-ILB-Clemson- immediate special teams star. Can compete with Bradley, Gilbert and VW for snaps right away. FOOTBALL PLAYER!!!!!

6/198-Parnell Motley-DB-OU- as mentally tough a player as you will find. Big 12 QB's threw at him all day everyday and he made plays time after time. Had his best year in 2019.

    7/232-Kevin Davidson-QB-Princeton-see above.

I would love for us to get that deal done with the Pats but it wouldn't happen till we are on the clock. Either way I think we need to get an extra pick or two in this draft. Here We Go Steelers Here We Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A healthy James Conner is a Pro Bowl caliber talent. I havent seen the other two... so i cant argue whether they would be "Substantial upgrades" to JC.
Sure.. his injury history is well documented... and obviously a healthy Rookie RB would be an upgrade over an injured JC.

Love both versions of your draft. My "man crush" on draft day is Cam Akers. Really hope they get him

My late round "hope pick" is Gabriel Davis, WR from UCF

AJ Dillon is much more than a "faster Benny Snell." He is also bigger (250 lbs and not fat), and has much better feet. He is not just some big bull who just runs straight ahead; he has instincts and vision with the nifty feet to get him where the holes are. Snell is mostly just a bruiser, who on the college level, could use his sheer power to get it done. In the NFL, that's not going to really work all that well, defenders are too big and strong. With AJ, he has much more than just power (although he has that too).

I like both your draft scenarios, if they are plausible. We definitely need a NT, RB, ILB, OL, S. (And that's assuming they don't go qb). By the way, if you think that they at least draft a #3 qb, are you assuming Duck won't make it?

How come your mocks always seem so much prettier than mine!

I swear I see fireworks every time I read a name!

I have liked or considered all those players except a few ( your QB and other dude in 6th)

Well done SKL. I’m loving both mocks. I know the Steelers has virtual visits with Akers and Jonathan Taylor, so RB may be high on their priority list.

Im leaning towards RB with pick 2. If Conner stays healthy... we will have a legit 1A/1B punch...and a heck of a RB corp
