    Players to cut!

Here are players whose time shoul be up and there savings

Mark Barron 5.25 Mil- While he hasn't been terrible he isn't worth that $$
Vance 5.65 Mil- Production doesn't equal salary
    Chickilo-5.0 Mil- NO Brainer
Foster-4.0 MIl- It's time. Thx for everything.

Maurkice Pouncey- I think they need to tell him to rework his deal. His dead money hit is big with a straight cut. But his play is in freefall.

20 million freed up without Pouncey rework. Use that to sign Bud and Hargrave and maybe a decent interior OL.

20 million might get Bud and a late scrub FA, not all 3.
Those guys will probably get offered more from other teams. We are last in positive cap space. More than half the league has 2-3 times as much room.
They may also want to win and realize it ain't happening here.
The numbers differ but I have seen us only having 39 guys under contract. So by cutting 4 to add 1, we need cash to sign 17-19 guys.
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?

Bud's cap hit should fall somewhere around 12-13 mil if they structure it right. Similar contract to Danielle Hunter. Hargrave around 7-8 mil. Currently we are projected to be around 5 mil under the cap without doing anything. That's basically a draft class. A couple restructures like Khan always does and we will have the money we need to do what we need. The big question is do we need to bring in a veteran #2 QB. That will be slightly expensive.

We currently have 45 under contract for next year. Some of those will be gone. I see about 10 roster spots that will be open to players not currently on the team.

I think Bud's hit will be higher and a long term deal will threaten future deals with Watt and Fitz.

I like Bud and I want to sign him.

But Ben's contract means it's probably a luxury we can't afford.

I would go along with all of those moves. Plus, I'd lean on Ben as hard as I could, to try to get him to rework his contract so we could have a chance to sign a FA or two.

No way do I cut someone as reliable as WILLIAMS. Especially if you wanna cut BARRON also.

I don't see HARGRAVE getting a deal either....he's a liability vs the Run. Steelers need someone who can hold his ground. Not a lot of sack production either.

They mentioned this cap space bit on the local radio yesterday, and Savran said the cap is going up next year by 10 million, so we'd have that as well- he said this or is he wrong? And isn't AB's money coming off as well?

Who said anything about cutting Williams? I can't see it in this thread.

I disagree with you on Hargrave. I think he's been an excellent value, After Tuitt went down to injury, he got more playing time and I thought our D just kept humming along fine. I'd love to see us keep him, but I would imagine some 4-3 team will want to pay him more than we will.

Well, it’s about where they would get the money to resign these guys now.
IF ... they want to resign them.

Likely saw "Vance" in the initial post and thought "Vince" - I made the same mistake when I first read it.
What is Roethlisberger's cap hit next year, and what options are there to lessen it? It won't happen, but after getting paid to watch for a year, and seeing how good the defense can be, I'd love to see him take a discount in order to strengthen the team and go for #7.

Yep. I have no doubt the Steelers would like to resign nearly everyone on defense. But sadly the market will determine who they can afford to keep.

Steelers will cut Foster, McDonald, Barron, Chick to start.

Dupree will be franchised & I think he gets done.

Hargrave will test & sign elsewhere. All parties would love to stay in Pittsburgh but the business won't allow it.

Vannett, Finney, Hilton will be retained. If any sign elsewhere they will sign their "typical" filler.

They will sign a vet backup QB. Won't throw names too early. It will be someone starter capable.

Steelers first pick (2nd Round) will be highest rated player on offensive side of ball. They way it falls many times is a RB, TE, Interior OL or WR with a 1st round grade slips. With Dupree locked up...That will be the play.
