Ok first, the logical reason Mason played so bad. 1) He is a rookie QB with only 8 games under his belt (Ben has had worse games). I believe the Sunday-Thursday schedule really hurt his game prep. He is a film and study junkie. Without that time to prepare for a specific team it showed. 2) Do we even need to talk about having no play makers on the field to help. No running back, no receivers. 3) The pro bowl caliber offensive line sucked. If they were not getting penalties getting us in long down situations they were allowing free runs at Mason, Pouncy had another bad snap, a low ball Mason handled. 4) Lastly, Mason threw 2 deep passes that once again the receivers could have caught. Ok. now the bad Mason stuff. 4 INT's enough said. I have been patient and have saw things that made me encouraged for the young man to some day take over for Ben. I am now not so sure. There is certainly no QB controversy in Pittsburgh, lol. For those of you always banging on Ben you now see what life after him will look like. Mason is not progressing in his reads, pocket presence, his arm strength is now questionable also. For all of his poor play last night Ben would not have come out with a win either. People calling for the Duck, please remember he was cut from the team. He was basically 4th on the deep chart. There has to be a reason for that. The most popular player on a losing team is the back up QB. One side note about Pouncy, he will be suspended also, (probably should for the punches and kick to the head) but why was he the only one really fighting to take up for Mason? I'm glad he did what he did and I hope the Steelers pay him while he is not playing. When that thug came up from behind and knocked Mason to the ground no one even touched him. That would not have happen in Steelers past. Sorry for the long post, longest of my tenure on here.
My two cents worth on the debacle

My thoughts on Mason. He doesn’t have it. Does this mean we will never have a capable starter after Ben? Definitely not. Just means we picked a guy who dropped for a reason and probably isn’t going to be more than a stop gap.
The OL, old and not up for the fight. They were beat down. Literally.
Thursday games are always tough but this one was embarrassing. We got man handled and bullied.
Looks like our D was gassed on the first series. They’ve been playing above the line and were bound for a let down. Just wish the O would’ve showed up for a half. -
I think talent is more important on short weeks, especially road games on Thursdays.
We just came off two weeks beating more talented teams in the Colts and Rams.
Our O didn't look great at the beginning of the game and got worse as we were forced to put in guys who are replacement level NFL players.
They have talent on O and our D still did OK. I think when we have a whole week of prep our D will look even better.
I'm not confident about our O...at all. And that confidence went down when Holton ends up being the next man up.
I think it's hard to get an accurate assessment of a team on a Thursday road game, but our O certainly looked very bad.Comment

Let's be clear, he's a first year starter, but not a rook.. He's been able to sit in those film rooms and get some knowledge of presnap reads, etc. He's a second year pro.
He makes reads slow and has no timer in his head. By halftime, i admit that i was wanting Duck - i know, i know... but, in MY mind it couldn't get any worse... turns out, IT DID.
Speaking of Duck... he was cut so they could deal Dobbs. They HOPED he'd stay available and they did, but clearly they felt he (and Mason) were better than Dobbs...
As for the fight - i can't imaging what woulda happened if Kemoatu was out there and that happened to his QB...2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

Good points; If Garrett were back in the day and tried that, he'd have been laid out by Steeler players in the past. Solid point.Comment
