Tunch and Wolf were asked that question on their show. They basically said that some guys just like to use their strong arm. They said Bettis normally kept it in his strong arm instead of switching to the outside.

But regardless, these receivers need to know that the tomahawk chop is coming and prepare for it. You could see the way that Washington was carrying the ball and swinging his arm, that it was ripe for the picking.

That would be good, but whoever takes his place has got to hold on to the ball.

It can be coached. I think it was Tiki Barber who was a notorious fumbler until he got intensive coaching. Completely changed his game.

            $$

they changed the way he held the ball. taught him to hold it up high.
I don't think it has to be that drastic yet, but definitely needs to be addressed.

johnson's fumble on the punt return I'll chalk up to inexperience. at some point the best thing to do is just go down instead of fighting for yards with 6 defenders bearing down on you

But apparently he has a history of bobbing on kickoffs.

Didn't Sutton set a "record" for number of punts caught during the pre-season? Just cause he's a defender doesn't mean we can't give him a look

Fighting for yards after you have been drilled is a bad idea.

Sutton was a very good returner in college, so I kind of like to see what he could do.

That said, and I know this will be unpopular, I’ve been a Steeler fan for years, and not fumbling the ball on returns is of first importance to me. I’ve seen past teams kill momentum and lose games by fumbling kicks. I too wish Switzer would get a return once in awhile, but I don’t hold my breath every time he fields a kick.

Remember the way Woodson used to catch punts? He would just use his hands and catch it right in front of his face. It used to scare the sh!t out of me but I don't know if he ever fumbled a punt.
As many on this site think ... The Rooney's suck, Colbert sucks, Tomlin sucks, the coaches suck, and the players suck.

                    but Go Steelers!!!

Probably better off not having anyone back there....Also wont get penalized like we usually do on ST

I agree about fumbles... Especially on kicks and punts where they'd give the opposition great field position.

I just wish Switzer ran forward now and again. I don't need 30 yards, but 5 would be nice. Probably would have avoided a safety last game.

Its that or the ghost of Limas Sweed lingering around the locker room.

                            Someone would still hold.

Honestly, I don’t even think there are penalties half the time. It’s just an easy way for the refs to control the flow of the game.
