I think we try to run simplified versions of our O and our D. Focus on executing simple things instead of getting super complex.
On O, try to run more and or take the easy completions. Stay on schedule and don't try to hit too many home runs. Do our best to keep Mason in manageable situations. Hope to chew up some time to keep the D fresh. Basically, run a Cowher style offense except sub out some of the runs with short passes.
On D I think we probably have to be pretty vanilla so our new toy at FS isn't lost after only having a play book for a few days. I think he will make the D better, but it seems reasonable that he'll need time to learn the system / language.
A long trip west and new pieces at QB and FS. I think it will be a tough game.
But for Flip, I say keeping it simple and focusing on the little things have us eeking out a rare win for us in CA.Last edited by Northern_Blitz; 09-18-2019, 05:41 AM.Comment

I dont think we scale the offense back at all, its not like we a running some fast paced wide open offense. I think we see more Washington more Vance and more Johnson. Moncreif has taken himself out of the lineup and with Ben out tjey can finally take out Ben' s boy Switzer.Comment

What other pick was there, except for the good pass to stone-hands Mongrief one? Rudolph was 12/19 for 112 yards, 2 TD's and 1 int as far as I know.Comment

I agree that we'll see more targets (or at least higher target share) to JuJu and Vance and fewer to Switzer (I assume none for Montcrief)I dont think we scale the offense back at all, its not like we a running some fast paced wide open offense. The pick on the 2 point conversion doesn't show up on the stat sheet.

I expect we'll push the ball downfield on O given that Mason's best strength is his touch on long balls. I expect to see us taking more shots downfield to Washington, Johnson, and Juju.
We'll see Juju in the slot more on 3 WR sets to give Mason some easier targets in the middle of the field.
I also expect more 2 back sets to give Mason another easy outlet in Samuels in the passing game.
And a mix of more jumbo packages with an emphasis on establishing the run. I expect Vance will get the most targets this week to try and pull folks out of the box to help the running game.
Not sure what they'll do defensively. Think it would be easiest to primarily use Minkah in 1 on 1 coverage and in a couple blitzes. Maybe to keep things really simple, you just have him follow Kittle everywhere he goes and give him help underneath and over the top. Bottom line, I think you want to try and take away Kittle and the running game and make Jimmy G and the WRs beat you on the outside.sigpicComment

It’s not counted in the stats because the play is dead once it’s intercepted. It’s basically an incomplete pass.
I would be more disappointed in an incompletion to a wide open guy on a 2pt conversion.Comment

Oh, right. Well, that was the only pick on Rudolph.Comment

Sure.
But when a guy (1) doesn't have an NFL track record in the regular season and (2) threw a fair number of picks in 1 of 2 preseasons, I think it's reasonable to be a little concerned when a ball he throws gets caught by a guy in the wrong jersey. He did get better in preseason 2 and I hope that's more his true level than the picks on Sunday.
I admit that it's not fair to put the first one on him as Montcrief has been terrible for us. Mason even looked like he put that throw so if Montcrief dropped it, it would get wedged in his face mask.
I'm excited to see what Rudolph can do this week instead of coming in cold off the bench. I think he can be good, I just want to see it first.Last edited by Northern_Blitz; 09-18-2019, 09:45 AM.Comment

The pick on the 2pt conversion is not concerning, there is no benefit to throwing the ball away on a 2pt conversion, if nobody is open you just throw it up for grabs.Sure.

I would agree if we were talking about Ben or someone else with a long track record.
I'm just saying that I'll believe in him more after seeing him play well for a reasonable stretch in the regular season. I'm excited to have that chance (although I'd rather Ben was healthy and at peak performance).Comment
