When is the Last Time You Guys Have Been This Excited About Preseason?

I can't remember a preseason where I've felt the depth was this good. From our backup QBs to WR depth to DL, LB, DB depth. There's not been this kind of depth in a long time.

And I'm not just talking ST bodies. I think we have backups and 3rd stringers that will play a big role in our future.

There's been 1 or 2 guys in camp that I really like, but this year there's a dozen or so.

Rudolf and Hodges. Spencer, Johnson, Holton. Biggs, Ola, Skipper.

And then there's the guys on the upswing like Conner, Samuels, Edmunds, Watt.

And then the new guys and the rookies. Like Barron, Bush, etc.

It just feels like this team is about to burst and no one will see it coming.

I feel like we're ready to start competing for the next 5 years.

This is the 1st time in a long time I've seen glimpses of a dominant Defense.

we can make all the usual excuses about pre-season BUT....

I am really totally (but cautiously) optimistic.

The defense is looking better than it has in years.

the offense will still be very effective. we have a ton of weapons.

the corners and safety's appear very solid and aggressive.

bush looks extremely promising right from the start.

bud dupree has been solid and explosive.

boswell is making all his kicks.

          there's been ZERO drama.

I really really really hope we don't have another slow start in sept.

          yep. I'm excited.

Now if we get blown out by the pats week one - I'll be back to say exactly the opposite.

It’s the one position I don’t like our depth. But i like Grimble. I like our #4 WR and I like Samuels as an HBack.

So I can live with what we have, but would like to find some depth.

              Starlifter said it, “Zero Drama”...

not to to mention all the other stuff mentioned by flippy as well.

Yeah ah I’m excited. I’m always excited at the beginning of the year. Even for the Pirates.

I am am stoked we open up against the defending champs in their place as well.

              Lets go!!!

See I'm the opposite. I have zero faith in Grimble. I think he is a critical drop away from losing us a game. McDonald's health this season may be second in importance to only Ben's.

My interest in the preseason is less and less each year.

I definitely get excited to see some football but usually after a quarter or two I lose interest.

I’m ready for the regular season.

I wouldn’t mind if they changed it to 2 or 3 games but that’s probably not fair to guys trying to make a team.

Yeah our TE situation could be better but hey, I think our situation is better then the Patriots.

From what we've seen of McDonald's hands this pre-season (fumble and dropped pass) I'm not feeling all that confident in him. I think TE is our thinnest position but overall I am impressed with the talent the team is displaying. I agree with the OP that we have a lot to be excited about. Of course when this happens I'm afraid we release the wrong guy and he becomes a superstar with someone else. It's never happened but I do worry about it. This year my guy is Devlin Hodges. I fear he will be another Johnny Unitas. I think I need to start taking my anti-anxiety medicine early this year.
As many on this site think ... The Rooney's suck, Colbert sucks, Tomlin sucks, the coaches suck, and the players suck.

                        but Go Steelers!!!

I still think we trade Dobbs to Carolina or Indy or whatever and keep Ben as our starter, Mason as his backup, and Devlin as the 3rd string developmental QB on our final 53 man roster.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I have the same feelings about Hodges. He's small. He throws side arm. He doesn't even have that big of an arm. But he's got this clutch gene or something special and intangible about him.

It's a poise. Confidence. Whatever. He's got it and Mason might have it too. But Dobbs doesn't have it.

I want to see Hodges and Mason competing to replace Ben one day.

Hodges is going to be that exception that just makes it work. Like Brees or Wilson. Maybe he's a little bit of giant Doug Flutie. Or as other people might like to call it, Little Ben.

Gotta laugh at Devlin Hodges (6'1") being a giant Doug Flutie (5'10").
