Barron is the same size except a few pounds short. Both drafted in the top 10. Is Barron faster? Barron played for two teams previous versus one for Farrior. It seems to me this is what the Steelers may be thinking? What do you think? All we need is Larry Foote II and we will be set. Of course it would help to have a Casey Hampton at the nose which I believe has been the problem with our D.
Is Mark Barron the new James Farrior

Even though it is a different position, I get that feel about our new corner as Farrior. Just started showing promise his last season before coming here.
Both guys are they type that we have scored on before.sigpic
In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment

Barron is a different type of player than Farrior was. Steelers' D is markedly different than it was when Farrior and Hampton were here. We're only in base package about 20% of the time, often in nickel and dime packages with only two down linemen on the field. Barron should (hopefully) be able to stay on the field in most alignments due to some position flexibility.Barron is the same size except a few pounds short. Both drafted in the top 10. Barron is actually a better fit in nickel or dime defense than he is in a base defense, so his addition should be particularly beneficial to us, I would think.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

I have a feeling that we might skip ILB in the first 3 rounds, and the reason why is because of Barron.
We might not have a void now with him on board and our base D is really a sub package with 3 safeties.

Could be. I really want Devin White (as many Steeler fans do), but I acknowledge that's not realistic.
My current mock has us taking a couple of ILB, but not until rounds 4 & 6 (WVU's Long and Stanford's Okereke).
If you look at our current roster, we do have 3 veteran ILB's who each have plenty of NFL starting experience between them (Mark Barron, Vince Williams, and Jon Bostic). Behind them is former 7th round pick Tyler Matakevich, who while contributing a bit on defense here and there, is essentially a just special teams demon for us at this point.
Behind our starting OLB's Watt and Dupree (who is currently only on a 1 year deal), we have former 6th round pick Anthony Chickillo, who has some experience as a rotational player for us on defense, but then a couple of question marks in former UDFA Ola Adeniyi and former 7th round pick Keion Adams.
Behind our starting safeties Edmunds and Davis, we have a former UDFA journeyman safety in Jordan Dangerfield and a completely unproven former 5th round pick in Marcus Allen.
You could certainly make an argument that we have possibly a greater immediate need for an infusion of depth at safety and OLB than at ILB right now.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

For awhile I've been thinking that unless a miracle happens with White that OLB was the much higher priority in the first. There also seems to be much more first round Edge talent than at ILB. I also would not be shocked to see a CB early as the FO wants to prove that they aren't "unable" to find and develop a CB. If they grab the draft's first or second CB then they have a no excuse prospect to develop. Considering that one starter is going into his final season, a top prospect might be what they need.Could be. I just did a new mock 4 http://www.planetsteelers.com/forums...d=1#post761220, which at first I liked it. I thought of going a different route in this mock, but I keep looking it, and I keep seeing one name repeating.
Barron.
Is he going to be that big piece of the puzzle to our defense going forward and what is his role going forward? An inside linebacker that plays our hybrid LB/Safety.
He starts ILB along with VW, then pops to our 3rd safety when we go nickle/dime/3 safety packages? Who plays ILB on those plays or is he strictly our ILB. Does Allen come in and play SS and Edmunds goes to the hybrid?

That woukd be nice ...Outside of WHITE I don't want an ILB since we signed Barron. So let's hope BARRON is the guy and we sit at #20 and take either Hock, Greedy, Murphy or an Edge or DT who drops to us for no other reason than a bunch of QBS got picked and someone reached for DK MetcalfHere We Go Steelers, Here We Go...
