They take him and POSSIBLY go back to back ILB's in rounds 2 AND 3...And still possibly even move up to get one because 1) Won't cost us as much...2) With all these draft picks I'm predicting at least one move up, if not two...

Because 10 draft picks ARE NOT making this roster...I can see us having our " usual " about 7...But they will be a bit higher picks, and just not as as bottom heavy...

    That's jmo who knows...
We've not done so well as of late taking linebackers later in the draft. I want to give Colbert the safest possible way not to strike out in the first round. And I think that us being able to get one of those linebackers that we covet will insure we answer a critical need and not strike out at the same time.

That's why I don't want to take any cornerbacks in the first round in a weak cornerback class this draft. Great TE can be found later in the draft so I'm not too cocerned about that position; or RB because if we need to add a RB, we can do that in the second wave of free agency after the cuts behind the draft.

But ILB ,OLB and safety, I'd love to be addressed in the first 3 rounds of this draft. And that additional 3rd round pick could be used as need be. And then the rest of the draft, so on and so forth.

I just don't want Colbert to miss on his first 3-4 picks. Trying to balance that out with what we need.

I also think we kinda used Hines like a TE at times. So many times, he'd put a hat on one of the 9s which you typically wouldn't expect from a WR. The way Hines opened up the middle of the field within a zone opened up the box for the running game, just like great TEs do. But it wasn't 100% like a TE because you still need to cover Hines with a CB.
Your right Flippy; Heath was more than an adequate blocker too. But I'm just scared of Colbert addressing critical needs later in the draft. He's been striking out as of late taking linebackers later in the draft.

        Question....

Considering our need at safety , and considering all the safeties that are available, why haven't we been approaching any of the free agent safeties? Or have we?

If Hockenson falls to #20 and is the best player available to us at that point regardless of position, we could take him there and still accomplish your desire to address ILB ,OLB and safety within the first 3 rounds of the draft.

          For example:

          1.20 TE T.J. Hockenson
          2.52 ILB Mack Wilson
          3.66 OLB Chase Winovich
          3.88 S Amani Hooker

          or

          1.20 TE T.J. Hockenson
          2.52 S Taylor Rapp
          3.66 ILB Germaine Pratt
          3.88 OLB Carl Granderson
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

We did have the most dropped INTs in the league.

I think we're content with our two starters at S.

I think it's less of an issue than CB was and ILB is.

Colbert's been 50/50 on his 1st round picks in the Tomlin era. I'm not entirely sure the Tomlin/Colbert have been all that good at drafting players quite frankly overall.

The players in yellow are my draft crushes

Or we can trade back our 2nd or trade up to get a combo of:

                  1.20 Hockesnon
2.52 trade back get another 3 and 4th
                  3.66 Chase
                  3.83 Pratt
                  3.? Hooker
                  4) Taki
                  4) RB Hill/ WR Mclaurin Jennings, Isabella

Why do you think the Steelers would perceive a need at safety? They took 1 in the first round last year and were happy with the improved play of the other after moving him to FS. Regardless of what anyone on the board thinks. Davis and Edmunds will be the starters in 2019. I do think Burnett will be a post June 1 cut and they will looks to add depth. However, I don't think there was ever a thought of spending big money at Safety.

                      Shots fired!! Harsh words...

Colbert missing on JJ and Dupree has hurt us. Not being aggressive and not getting Jackson (cornerback) the year the Bengals snipped us was another. I'm sensing a little urgency/fire in Colbert this year to do better. But I want to help him not miss with our first round pick by keeping it simple and getting one of the Devin's.

Davis? I'm really not sold on him. LOL. And Edmonds is still an experiment.

Heaven's no..Nnt big money because there are guys available. But are you that comfortable with those two guys?

Personally I think both are middle of the row guys who could develop into upper 3rd of the league. Personally I thought Edmunds was a 2nd rounder at best. However, I think the Steelers are comfortable with them starting next year.

I hope the Steelers are looking to upgrade, especially at FS.

I really don't think Burnett is going to stick with us, we are probably going to keep him till we find his replacement or if we can deal him. And maybe Davis isn't the answer either at FS and we opt to trade him.

Garnder is growing on me... he seems like a legit play maker DB.

Another one is Hooker... this kid looks like he can play all over... both S, CB, nickelback, dimebacker.

although still possible, it won't be nearly as easy for Sean Davis to lead the team in missed tackles if he isn't starting.
