Salary cap will be around $190 million in 2019

Salary cap will be around $190 million in 2019
By Michael David Smith | Dec 11, 2018, 5:26 PM EST

The NFL’s salary cap is rising again.

The league announced today that the salary cap will rise to somewhere in the neighborhood of $190 million in 2019. The 2018 cap is set at $177.2 million.

“The NFL informed clubs today that the projections for the 2019 salary cap are in the range of $187.0 million to $191.1 million,” the league said in a statement. “This marks a 40% increase in just five years since the 2014 season ($133.0 million) and would be the 6th consecutive year the cap is projected to climb more than $10 million per club year over year. Total projected player costs, including benefits, will be more than $7.3 billion in 2019.”

The first year the NFL had a salary cap, in 1994, it was $34.6 million. That would be about $59 million in today’s dollars. So if the cap had merely kept pace with inflation, it would be less than one-third of what it will be in 2019.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Recently I read that the Steelers were going to have $26M in cap space next year against the old number after not signing Bell. If the cap goes up about $13M that should give us about $39M of cap space. That is unheard of for the Steelers.

Given performances this year, who could be cut to generate additional caps space? Foster? Gilbert?

foster is on his last year and is cheap. I would consider bringing him back for depth on a friendly deal

Gilbert can go as he's never healthy anyways

Morgan burnett can take a hike as well. he has been a disaster this year

This is the last year of Foster's contract now. He'll be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.

Gilbert has one more year on his deal in 2019. Cutting him would save $4.9M but would leave $1.7M of dead money on our 2019 cap.

DEFENSE - anywhere from OLB, ILB to CB - but most importantly someone who could take BUD DUPREE's spot and do something with it.
                    KEVIN GREENE 2.0??

Dupree isn't the problem. Vince Williams and Bostic are far bigger issues. They are totally unable too defend the offenses in use now in the NFL. Neither can cover even average TEs.

Dupree didn’t show up in the stats today. Look at the box score and you wouldn’t even know he played. And it’s happened multiple times this year. He’s not a difference maker at all.

Kareem Jackson is interesting. Listed as a CB, he has been playing more S this season. Supposedly because of his versatility as opposed to not being able to play CB.

I like Ford a lot, as well as Clowney, but his injury history might scare the team away. Mosely would be funny to add considering the connection to him.

We need another starting OLB, ILB and CB.

                            CB tops the list again.
