    Week 11 Injury Report (Jaguars)

    Teresa Varley

    Steelers.com

James Conner was on the field on Wednesday after being in the concussion protocol since he suffered a concussion against the Panthers. Coach Mike Tomlin said during his weekly press conference that ‘physical labor’ was the next step in getting out of the protocol, and Conner was a full participant in practice.

“I felt good. I felt like me again,” said Conner. “Back to normal. When it first happened, it was a dizzy feeling. But today I had a good day at practice. I feel like me again. I am good. I am happy.”

Ben Roethlisberger, who didn't practice on Wednesday as normal, likes what he has been seeing from the second-year running back, who just keeps getting the job done.

“He does it every week,” said Roethlisberger. “He’s putting it on tape he keeps getting better. I think we know what he can do running the ball, but to me I think he’s getting better and better at pass protection and catching the ball out of the backfield. You saw potential, but you just didn’t know what until he got on the field more.”

Stephon Tuitt didn’t practice on Wednesday, hampered by an elbow injury that Tomlin said could limit him at the start of the week.

Marcus Gilbert also didn’t practice. Gilbert has missed the last three games with a knee injury, and with him out Matt Feiler has stepped in and held things down at right tackle.

Below is the full practice report.

Is Gilbert holding himself out of practice to limit contact, to increase his negotiating power for next season's contract negotiations?

We got our "6-PACK" - time to work on a CASE!

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!

I feel like we are going to play stronge and make this a no doubter by the middle of the fourth quarter.

Hold then to 17 points or fewer and I like our chances of winning.

We need to punish the Jags, I hope Ben drops 3 TD's on Ramsey.

This is one of the top teams I hate to see play the Steelers. It feels like they've got our number for some reason. Even if we're the better team, I feel like they're going to find a way to beat us.

Vegas sees this game around 26-20 or 26-21 with a Steelers victory.

After being off 10 days, I feel like we'll come out slow and get behind and it could be tough playing catchup on the road against a good D. Despite the Jags record, I think this game is a good benchmark to see where we are.

Yeah, use our last game against the Panthers as our template for all of the remaining big cat games. Play the same way this week against the Jaguars as we did against the Panthers. Start strong and don't let up. Do the same thing against the big cat Bengals in the season finale too. And, in between those games, on 12/16/18 we also need to beat up on those big cats from New England, the Cheetahs.

In Jacksonville, James Conner could face more attention than ever

Posted by Mike Florio on November 15, 2018, 12:29 PM EST

With the Le'Veon Bell question finally answered, everyone now knows that the running back in Pittsburgh will be led by James Conner for the balance of the year. And his first game post-Le’Veon (assuming Conner exits the concussion protocol) could be the biggest on-field challenge Conner has ever faced.

With cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey and, if healthy, A.J. Bouye, the Jaguars will be able to park a safety in the box, forcing Conner to navigate an eight-man front.

He may be able to do it. So far, Conner has exceeded all expectations. But the challenge could be more significant, especially if the Jaguars’ defense generally can perform against Pittsburgh the way it did throughout most of 2017.

Conner is one of the names who made it to this week’s “Show Me Something” draft on PFT Live. For the full list, check out the video attached to this post.

And then vote on the winner in the Twitter poll. (And then put on a disguise and vote again.)

I"m having these same feelings but I"m trying to shake them off. Ben needs to come out right away and establish himself. If he does that, everything else should fall into place in our favor. That's the key. Ben coming out and putting a TD on the board.

                            Week 11 Injury Report (Jaguars)

                            Teresa Varley

                            Steelers.com

The Steelers moved their practice inside on Thursday with a cold, all day rain making life miserable on the outside.

For a second straight day Marcus Gilbert didn't practice. Gilbert has missed the last three games with a knee injury, and Matt Feiler has stepped in at right tackle. With Feiler in there the offense hasn’t missed a beat, winning all three games. Feiler said he is doing exactly what is the standard for any player when they are the ‘next man up.’

“That is the expectation for every guy in this room,” said Feiler. “We have to trust each other and we do trust each other. If their number is called, or your number is called, you just have to step in.”

The running game hasn’t faltered at all the last three weeks, with James Conner having 100 plus yard games two of the three. Feiler said it’s moving the chains and getting ahead that has made the ground game work so well.

“We just have to stay on the field and stay up in games,” said Feiler. “Once we do that we gain momentum. We just need to keep that momentum on our side.”

Stephon Tuitt missed practice again on Thursday as well, still hampered by an elbow injury. Guard Ramon Foster also didn't practice, strictly a coach's decision to give the veteran a day off.

James Conner was a full participant on Thursday, a good sign for the offense and something that will keep the Jaguars on their toes as they prepare to face him. Conner played against the Jaguars in the regular season last year, but only had three carries for nine yards.

“I’ll tell you what, he’s really stepped up,” said Jaguars Coach Doug Marrone. “He’s a Pro Bowl running back. The line’s a good line, they’ve got really good field players. But his ability to break tackles, to run. He’s doing everything that’s asked of him and he’s doing that at an extremely high level where I know he was my vote for the Pro Bowl.”

Below is the full practice report.
