LBell is hurt and knows he's done. So his only viable option for 1 big pay day is to get the biggest possible guaranteed contract.

Sitting out a year was just a cover up for his injury. He's better off waiting to hit FA and get that one last contract rather than letting teams actually see he is done and having the $14m be the last dollars he sees from the NFL.

If it's true and he gets hurt immediately after signing a FA deal, that's the only logical reason for sitting out the season that I would agree is the best move.

My understanding it was a 'progressive' guarantee meaning he had to make the roster each year after the first in order for the $10M payout each year. Obviously very smart thinking by the Steelers to protect from being Belled by Bell.

This never occurred to me but youre 100% right...he would be subject to the a piss test as soon as he signed because hes in the substance abuse program forever now but since hes technically not under contract he hasnt been getting tested.

Im sure its not a real deciding factor, but it is something i never thought of

As he has no current association with the NFL in any way, I believe the answer is absolutely not.

But I think he would have passed as of Friday when he still thought he had to sign this year (listening to his agent's ignorance-based advice, before he learned he didn't actually have to suit up this year) - no way he would have planned to sign without being "clean".

At least 30 days for marijuana to wash out of bloodstream/urine (longer in hair?). I don't see how one can use marijuana as an NFL player and reasonably expect to test negative.
