Ben is a good sportsman, not just a good athlete

When Reid came over and apologized for the hit to the head (after he was declared "disqualified"?), Ben smiled, gave him a pat on the head (a soft one!), and presumably also verbally accepted his apology. That was big of him, no pouty, no scowl, just a "no prob, dude" kind of response.

BTW, Reid climbed out of the piece-of-trash drawer I had put him in (the one where Burfict lives) when he came over and did that. Looking at the slo-mo a few times, I also see that he could easily have hurt Ben badly when he flew by, my personal opinion is he may have launched based on muscle memory of what was OK "in the old days", then in mid-flight probably said, "Uh, oh, can't do that", and sort of pulled himself in.

That elbow could easily have been "stuck out by accident" and really slammed Ben's head into the ground, more than the glancing blow of the shoulder did. Burfict would definitely have done that "by accident", and that could have been a multi-game injury right there.

I've done the Zapruder-frame-by-frame a zillion times, so this one was a piece of cake (not even a grassy "Noll" to confound things!).

We got our "6-PACK" - time to work on a CASE!

DEF a classy move on both guys - especially after Pouncey had a hold of his face.

I understand the emotion of everyone involved - it happens - it's football.

Eric Reid: I didn’t even know you could be ejected in the NFL

Posted by Michael David Smith on November 9, 2018, 4:50 AM EST

Panthers safety Eric Reid was ejected from Thursday night’s loss to the Steelers, which was unsurprising to anyone who saw him drill Ben Roethlisberger in the head long after Roehtlisberger’s knee hit the ground on his feet-first slide. Unsurprising, that is, to anyone other than Reid and his coach.

Reid said after the game that he was unaware that ejections are a thing in the NFL.

“I didn’t even know you could be ejected,” Reid said. “The referees told me I was targeting him, which I disagree with.”

It’s hard to fathom how an NFL player could not know that ejections exist in the NFL, and hits like Reid’s are exactly the kinds of plays that often result in ejections. But Panthers head coach Ron Rivera didn’t agree with the ejection, either.

“I don’t think that was warranted, I really don’t. I don’t think he hit him hard enough to eject him,” Rivera said. “They are trying to protect the quarterbacks, and he was high.”

Reid will certainly be fined, and possibly suspended.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I thought the ejection was a bad decision. QB's that slide at the last second always leave themselves open to be hit.

Its the rules. Reid could have let up much more than he did. He deserved ejection

I recall last season or two Flacco did the same thing and was really pounded. Gotta get down sooner.

I agree. By the time it was clear that Ben was going to slide, it would have been nigh to impossible for Reid to let up and avoid that hit. Penalize him, but don't kick him out for that.

The quarterback giving himself up was a bad idea because of the speed of the game. I agree it is nearly impossible to stop and not hit a quarterback who is trying to get every yard before sliding. That being said, it was pretty obvious there was intent last night and I thin the ejection was warranted.

Reid let his frustrations get to him and impulsively went for a cheap shot. It's not Burfict territory, but still cheap and absolutely deserved a penalty.

Rules? Come on man. The rules when it comes to protecting players are being over regulated. We've seen plenty of BS calls this year.

I thought it was a bang bang play. I don't know how defensive players are supposed to let up going at near world class speeds? As soon as a defensive player lets up the offensive player will take advantage and run for more yards, get a first down, or potentially score a TD.

Ben would probably still be running if he didn't see Reid coming in like a heat seeking missile. How about if Ben did the smart thing and slide right after he had the first down or before he put himself in a position to take an unnecessary hit from Reid?

How about the NFL implement rules and penalties for QBs and offensive players for putting themselves in bad positions that allow defensive players to be penalized or fined?

It's clear that refs are going to throw flags on most hits on the QB. That still won't stop defensive players from taking shots at QB's if given the chance. The NFL over reacted with the suspension. They just wanted to set another example even if it wasn't the right decision. The league/refs made a lot of bad decisions when it has come to over protecting the QB's lately.

Like all rules they are not bad or questionable until questionable situations like the Reid play happened. The rule was implemented for QB's to slide long before they take a hit. Not to slide at the last possible millisecond before taking a hit. Ben could had easily slid long before Reid built up enough speed to allow a bang bang play to happen.
