People blame Mike, but, he still chased down the deep ball that season when given a chance... that just isn't how Haley used him...
I always liked haleys offense (KC/AZ included)...i see what you are saying about wallace, but its not an overnight process to install an offense. That transition from long drops and deep passes to short drops and quick passes was a complete adjustment that ended up probably adding 3 years to bens career. Ive said it time and time again that with arians help ben became a great QB, with haleys help ben became a great passer.

Not sure what the deal was with haley in cleveland, hes not the most likable guy but feels scapegoat-ish to me.

Just a couple of shots per game.. unexpected... maybe off play action to buy Ben more time. They didn't need 15 long drop-backs, but, 3-5 per game would have been welcome.

at AZ he just happened to have Warner, Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, Edgerrin James and they still were like 9-7 regular season team the year they faced us in the SB.

Hue was already questioning his play calling and wanted to take away the authority, per his press conference last week; though he backtracked on that after sleeping on it and realizing he was calling him out.

I've watched parts of a couple of their games and chucked at TE screens on 3rd and 5; and 5 yard passes on 3rd and 9; same stupid ish he did as steelers OC.. We recall our own, "sweep against a fast defense on 4th and 1" - dude, a high school coach would get fired with that stupid crap.

If he didn't misuse Wallace we might not have A-B. I have shed no tears in Wallace leaving. 1-trick pony.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

Hopefully with Fichtner's help, Ben will become a great Super Bowl MVP.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

He's a better coordinator than Haley, but I actually think it would have been smarter for them to keep Haley as interim HC. Those two obviously didn't get along, so one had to go, but Haley (at least from the scenes in Hard Knocks) showed some sense of at least being around a winning atmosphere, and seeing what those teams do to succeed. I think Williams is going to turn them into a Bengals-lite type of team, just teaching more bad habits that a new coach will have to break.

I agree with you, and so am glad they did fire Haley. Hopefully he'll wind up in the AFC East, though to be honest I think we're due to see the passing of the torch there soon, Haley as an opposing coach or not, as a consequence of Father Time alone (I wonder why it's called Father Time? Not Mother Time, or Little Sister or something … ).

My guess is just they fired Jackson due to performance and then thought that Haley couldn't / wouldn't be able to work with Williams.

Putting Hue Jackson’s coaching career in perspective

Posted by Mike Florio on October 30, 2018, 6:18 AM EDT

One of the great challenges for humans is to figure out what they’re good at and do it, and to figure out what they’re not good at and not do it. Twice-fired NFL coach Hue Jackson, like former NFL coaches Norv Turner and Wade Phillips, is very good at being an NFL assistant coach, and not nearly as good at being an NFL head coach.

While Jackson may still aspire to be an NFL head coach after an abysmal career record of 11-44-1, punctuated by a 3-36-1 disaster in Cleveland, no NFL owner should ever again fall under the spell of Hue’s performance as an assistant coach (which surely will be very good) coupled with the best efforts of his friend(s) in the media to get him a third bite at the NFL apple (which surely will be attempted).

So lets assume that the book can be closed on Hue Jackson’s time as an NFL head coach. Here’s an eye-opening stats from ESPN, shared by Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times on Twitter: To match Jackson’s .205 career winning percentage, Patriots (and once-upon-a-time Browns) coach Bill Belichick would have to lose a lot of games. Specifically, Belichick would have to lose 867 straight games. Putting it another way, that’s more than 54 straight years of 0-16.

OK, so Belichick may not be the fairest example. So we ran the numbers with a coach far closer to Hue than Belichick in career achievements: Former Colts coach Chuck Pagano. Based on a career winning percentage of .549 (56-46) in 102 career games, Pagano would only have lose to 171 straight games to match Jackson. That’s nearly ten-and-a-half consecutive winless seasons.

So, yes, Hue Jackson has proven that he’s not suited to be an NFL head coach. Maybe, if he’s lucky, he won’t get a chance to keep proving it.
