Which Steelers Reporters Do You Like?

Just curious which reporters you think are most reliable and which you prefer.

Reading through the Post Gazette got me thinking. Specifically reading the chat transcripts. Gerry Dulac seems like a nice guy. Ed Bouchette seems like the most miserable person on the planet.

I don't know either from a hole in the ground and maybe it's just a difference in writing styles, but Gerry comes across as gracious even when he gets dumb questions and Ed comes across like he hates his job and is completely miserable even when he gets good questions.

A lot of times, I just read the articles and don't really pay attention to who wrote them. Is Ed trying to be the shock jock of Steelers' beat writers? Is he trying to replace Mark Madden? Not sure if that guy's still around or not, but for a second, that's who's chat transcript I thought I was reading.

I always enjoyed reading Dale Lolley and Jim Wexell and can't stand anything whatsoever about Mark Madden.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Most days I listen to ESPN Pittsburgh through the iHeart radio app on my phone.

First is In The Locker Room with Tunch and Wolf.

Then its The Stan Savran Show.

after that it’s The Adam Crowley Show.

Each show has all of them come on the show from time to time. Mark Madden is pretty much the only one I can’t stand.

Completely agree. I stopped reading Lolley now that he's with DK, but I still subscribe to Wexell's site. I also find David M. Todd to be knowledgeable and well reasoned, but he's only on the Terrible Podcast and Twitter at the moment, so I don't hear as much of what he has to say. Nationally, I think Aditi Kinkhabwala does a nice job with her Steelers coverage.

On draft day, Dulac has the best inside info. He called the Artie Burns pick a few years ago and I believe he had Edmunds among the draft candidates this year.

Yeah, I remember reading Lolley and Wexell but not sure where their articles have gone? Guess they disappeared and I haven't gone looking for them.

Both are behind pay walls now. Same with the Post-Gazette and Trib writers. Now it seems like just the bloggers are free.

If any of those professional sites allowed us to read for free, they'd get way more traffic than the other pay sites, and therefore could charge more to their advertisers to make up for that loss of subscription revenue, but I guess that's not know it works anymore. Gotta try to milk every last penny from the consumer...nobody rides for free!

That's unfortunate. Wonder how many people pay? What unique content are you going to get that you can't find for free elsewhere anyway?

The writers would probably also have higher earning potential as individuals longer term if their content wasn't gated. They could build a bigger audience and become better known. Unless they're capped out in terms of their own potential. There's probably a line where it makes more sense to put stuff behind a pay wall, but it seems short sighted to me. It's like these guys want to be Lars from Metallica over and over during the time of Napster and can't figure out the real way to make money in today's world, creating more opportunities for everyone else.

Good question. These days everyone else seems to post their own articles based on articles they read. the Steelers 24/7 site is all about "something happened according to this report from this site". Since you are letting your content out anyway through the third party, why not let everyone at it first hand and get the advertising revenue that would go with that traffic?

I usually enjoy most of the writers except for Madden.

Post Gazette allows a few free articles per month. When you hit the limit you get a message. I just go clear out my internet history. Cleans out the cookies and the PG doesn’t recognize your PC/IPad and you can go back to reading stuff there. I do it every week and don’t pay a thing.

A lot of the filler content on 24/7 is exactly that, but Wexell's stuff behind the paywall is good. Matt Williamson was with that site very briefly, but I'm not sure what happened to him. He was another guy who was pretty solid.

Lolley, Kaboly, Crowley makes more sense to me. Dulac and Lolley have more team insight. Tim Benz is a racist IMO.
Mark Madden is a Ben nut sucker, is his eyes Ben can't do wrong and everybody else is fair game.
Savaran is pretty good and unbiased.
Ed B is lost most of the time like ESPN reports.
Fillapati or what's his name does great chat.
I think that covers them all.
