yeah. I remember. I didn’t view that as bad. We offered him 70 mill.
Jets have more cap room next year. They can back up the brinks if they wanted too.
I think folks are underestimating how much money is out there for a guy like Bell.Last edited by feltdizz; 09-11-2018, 09:31 PM.Steelers 27

Lmao I am intrigued by this.Ok..So I waited until today to throw something out there. Waiting to see if the Steelers signed vets today. Since I didn't see anything reported here it is.
The restructure of Heyward was a head scratcher if they didn't sign anyone. Since we have a Salary Cap Jedi Master in Obi-Wan Omar Khan..Are the Steelers setting themselves up to play hardball with LB? The current space & his weekly holdout combined to rollover into 2019 & tag again?
I mean think this through. If they Steelers Really Really wanted to show they won't be manipulated by a player...They could. LB can show up AFTER the trade deadline & sign his tag to accumulate a year so he can be a FA. Steelers can tag him & force him to sign a long term...If they want him...Or force him to sign the tag so the could trade him & get high compensation. It would be his best scenario then not hitting the market at 28 for a RB. A Theory if the facts are accurate...sigpicComment

The dude is an absolute knucklehead. That's what I've been trying to tell you guys about him. Perspective teams may be looking at him and does he thinks this makes an NFl teams management want to give him Gurley money??
I'm so glad we won't be the dummies giving him a long term deal. A moron with money is a dangerous thing.Comment

He claims to care about his future but this image isn't good for his future. He just wants money to be a knucklehead.
Glad it wont be us giving him the money.Comment

As much as I sympathize with Bell and support his position - this behavior could very well back-fire on him and his agent. One thing these owners are good at is colluding. (See Kaepernick and Reid.) This is an owners league and they have big egos. The last thing they are going to do is stand by and let someone make a mockery of their beloved, collectively bargained, franchise tag.
I'm sure the owners do not want to see a precedent set by LB where other players with this designation follow his lead by skipping out on a team for half of a season, then, being rewarded with a huge "congratulatory" contract at the end. Also, I know that for as much criticism as our FO endures during this kind of thing from fans nationwide, the Rooneys are well respected amongst the owners in this league. Not saying Bell won't get a contract, but it might not be what he is expecting.
Just a thought!Comment

Bell is still working within the rules of the tag though. I think owners saw the way the Bell contract went and made sure to sign their elite RB’s to better deals to avoid this type of thing. As much as I sympathize with Bell and support his position - this behavior could very well back-fire on him and his agent. The Steelers were in a tough spot due to Bell’s personal conduct and injury history...
If he had been able to stay healthy and off of weed, I would imagine that signing him would have been less problematic...Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

I do agree with you. Just a little speculating on my part. You know these type of controversies a hardly ever "cut and dry." I do think the best case scenario for Bell may have been for him to show up and play this thing out.
Also, I do feel like Ben and his contract is ruining this team for the future. Say what you want, but he is not getting it done - consistently enough for anybody to trust him going forward. If they try to give him another contract (which I am seeing no reason why they would entertain that) That is the day I will officially burn my steelers gear. ( Seriously!)Comment
