    PIT-CLE: from a Browns blog

MATCHUPS: I’m wondering if the Browns have a chance to win within the division this year.
Steelers: The match up to their passing game isn’t bad as our pass rush should keep Ben on his toes and with our re-tooled secondary we can cover all except AB if the rush is good enough. We can do better than most at covering Bell as we will shadow him with Collins or Pepper. Our TE coverage is still an unknown but, the Steelers don’t have especially good TEs. I give them the edge due to AB and Bell.
The match up to their running game is also adequate as our front seven should be superior to their offensive line. The difference is that Bell is an exceptional back. Again I give them the edge.
How we match up to their passing defense? With Taylor’s accuracy and our cadre of pass catchers we match up very well to their secondary and lack of coverage linebackers. It will come down to how well our offensive line holds up to their pass rush. I think that we get the edge here.
Against their rush defense the match up is harder to judge. I think that they are going to be very strong against the rush and we are going to have a good rushing offense. I’m going to give them a small edge as I think teams will have to use outside speed to rush effectively against the Steelers and I don’t know if we can generate that kind of rushing attack.

    ...........
I’m wondering if they won’t create $9M in cap savings with $3M in dead money by releasing Joe Haden. By now they know that he is no longer a man to man coverage CB. They are not deep in defensive backs but, at this point Joe Haden is not much better than a replacement level CB. It will be interesting to see what they do.

Pro football Focus has the Browns front 7 at 24 th in the league. But yeah, better than our O line (hahahaha).

Releasing Hayden? What? That’s just a fan in denial that his team got flat out swindled by a division rival.

Defensive backs might be our deepest group.

Give browns fans credit - delusional and stupid to the end.

The Browns current Head Coach has a 2 year record of 1-31. To me that’s as important a fact or stat that I need to know about their franchise.
Obviously the standard is the standard.

                    wow lol

For the record i think the one thing the browns did right was abandon their rich tradition of playing musical HC poor season after poor season. I think Hue Jackson is a good coach and a good guy to get them out the dumpster in the basement

                      Why do you think that?

I just think he is a good football coach and in order to turn a team around you either need a wizard with magic football fairy dust or you need continuity and someone executing a vision that goes against the long line of failures the browns have had drafting. His career as a head coach likely rests on Baker Mayfield but I have a hard time blaming hue jackson for the browns constant misses on drafts and not only misses but ridiculously epic failures in trade downs. They should be absolutely stacking top talent (see Jacksonville, Oakland....years of top picks, years of not being able to retain top players or draw in top free agents). Trading Carson Wentz to draft Corey Coleman? Yikes.

without even looking at the list of the first round failures someone posted earlier i can name a few other indirect failures. Passing on Watson last year just to take Kizer (I am in love with Watson now, but i wasnt sure about him as a pro but I definitely thought he was better than Kizer).

Hell, they traded down from Julio Jones to take Greg Little back in the day lol

the failing is relentless and that doesnt just fall on the head coach. What instance has a head coach turned a team completely around without any talent on it? Particularly at QB, even if you want to build a team to play tough defense and run the ball you need at least a competant QB to compete. The corpse of RG3, Cody Kessler, Deshone Kizer, Brock Osweiler, and Kevin Hogan may be the worst list of QBs ive ever seen its hard to fault Jackson for that.

Maybe he is without a job next year, maybe hes not cut out for head coaching as we have seen be the case with some coaches better off serving as coordinators or specialists...but I think the browns owe him some more time considering the lack of help hes been given to this point (which looks like its gotten quite a bit better with the draft and some key signings/trades)

Hugh has been a good to great offensive coordinator throughout his career. He excels at that when that's all he's doing. Remember, he made howdy doody at QB in Cincinnati look more then decent when he was the coordinator there. And he did a good job that one year with the Raiders when Al Davis died.

Hugh will be at least an OC if he loses his job in Cleveland. He'll land on his feet somewhere. He could be the future OC here.
