New defensive additions could equate to even less base defense for the Steelers

What about Noll, Walsh and Gibbs???
Great coaches like the ones I mentioned above had a Plan A, B & C. Tomlin has never, ever had a plan B or C. Tomlin is trying (to his credit) to put in new schemes on defense and I believe it's because he's hearing the rumblings of some of the Steelers owners (minority owners asked for him to be fired) and the fan base is making the same noise as those owners.
He's responding and it's great to see. Plus, Ben's window is shrinking. You want to take advantage of having a franchise QB while you can.Last edited by Steel Maniac; 06-05-2018, 09:19 AM.Comment

I will agree, at least it never seems like he does.
Though … let me revise that please. It was pointed out by (?) Slappy that in our last game it did look like we came out of half-time with a Plan B, going from 21 points down (?) to almost winning. And I have to say I remember in a few of our games this past season I remember saying to myself, "Wow, we almost never can win when we fall behind, but look at us now!!". I attributed that to Ben and the offense, but maybe it was the coaching too.Last edited by SanAntonioSteelerFan; 06-05-2018, 09:22 AM.

But that isn't enough; because of what this organization has accomplished, that isn't enough. I hear what your saying but we as Steeler fans have much higher expectations. We are not the Bengals, Bears or Cardinals. We are Steeler fans; we expect more. It might sound a bit snobbish but it is what it is.Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

I think that your argument would be much stronger if the Steelers consistently lost 7 game series against weaker teams in the playoffs. But the NFL is like March Madness. Anything can happen.
The Steelers strategy throughout my lifetime seems to have been to try to be consistently good every year. Then, you'll be in playoffs more often. That means that you'll win more often than other teams. This was basically the definition of Cowher's tenure as head coach. Almost always good, eventually won.
I think that we aren't the Browns, Bears, or Cardinals because the FO doesn't make emotional decisions like firing a 13-3 coach that loses to a good team in the playoffs.Comment

Has nothing to do with like, dislike, weather a guy is white or black. When the playoff evidence shows that Tomlin isn't getting it done.
The evidence shows that Rooney had to calm the minority owners down from getting after Tomlin. Because the owners looked at the evidence (as you say) and have came to the same , logical conclusion of this team underachieving. THAT'S the evidence right there.Comment

We are talking facts. Not hate. I like Tomlin fine. But with the team we have had for the last 5 years, it has underachieved. Playoff winning has nothing to do with " Like or dislike" of a person. In Football, either your getting it done (Super Bowl appearance) with a great team or your not.

I"m not going to get into that 2008 Super Bowl because that's going to take the discussion in another direction that will cause great debate.
But the point is that we haven't gotten to a Super Bowl with a great team in 5 years. Factoring in also the terrible secondary Tomlin constantly puts together from a coach who was supposedly a good secondary coach.
That's why the minority owners wanted to get after him.Comment
