James Farrior was always listed with a weight in the 240's, but he admitted that there were times when his playing weight actually dropped down below 220 even.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

This article mentions him playing at 218:

Steelers fans should realize Vince Williams is good enough to anchor the ILB position

Please review Fournette’s 18 yard TD run.

all this off-season talk about sub packages and ILBs playing at 220 sounds great

let's see how it looks when the games that matter start and the opposing team exploits our deficiencies at stopping the run because we are too damn small

butler better produce some better results because his rhetoric is wearing pretty damn thin, imo

Vince was losing a lot vs. the Jags (he wasn't the only one).

A guy who loses lot against top competition isn’t a guy who I think is great at his position. Maybe that’s just me.

He's not great at his position. He's a 2-down player who was good enough as long as he had Shazier playing next to him, but once Ryan went down, VW's deficiencies were exposed. Hopefully, he will be good enough with Bostic next to him -- but concern about that is justifiable since Bostic has been below average for a starter at the position (although he had a nice season last year).

Nobody said that VW was "great"...not even in the article that pittpete posted...

Merely that he was a solid player...

Though he may have been a generally "solid" player before, Vince was not so "solid" once Shazier left the team. ILB play was a glaring weakness, especially evident in the playoff game vs. the Jags. The team did sign Bostic and drafted 2 safeties, Edmunds and Allen, (presumably) to offer some help shoring up the interior of the D. If those additions can adequately replace what Shazier contributed, then perhaps VW will go back to being "solid." If not, 2018 could be a long slog for the Steelers' defense.

When you can target a guy like Spence and be successful, and he was definitely targeted, it makes the whole defense look bad...

You are correct, though...if Bostic can do his job and allow Vince to do his, the run defense will improve...if Bostic gets abused like Spence did, it will be a long season....

It's not as simple as saying it was all Spence's fault. Go check out the game tape. It's amazing how many times Vince can't read the play, or doesn't know what to do, or is out of position. He looked every bit as much like the guy just signed off the couch, as Spence was.

Yup...Vince Williams was a solid complementary ILB playing next to Ryan Shazier just like Larry Foote was a solid complementary ILB playing next to James Farrior. Vince Williams and Larry Foote are both examples of efficient players who can do the job that's asked of them, but they aren't particularly dynamic options if they are suddenly counted on to be "the guy" in the middle of the defense when their excellent ILB partner gets injured and they have to play alongside a much weaker ILB instead.

You could make a similar observation at another position such as WR...for example, Alvin Harper was a solid WR2 opposite Michael Irvin's WR1 once upon a time, but when Tampa paid Harper big money to be their WR1, he didn't come close to living up to that contract...he's a solid complementary guy when paired with a better player, but not a dynamic lead dog when playing opposite a significantly weaker player.
