New defensive additions could equate to even less base defense for the Steelers

Might be a reason why they are content at ILB and not running out to sign one.

It is entirely possible that, if Edmunds is as advertised, a dime defense puts the best athletes on the field:

    Tuitt and Heyward kick inside...
Dupree and Watt on the edges...
    Bostic in the middle...
Haden and Burns at boundary CB...
    Davis at FS...
    Burnett and Edmunds at “dimebacker”...
And last, but not least, Hilton as slot CB...

Those guys might be our best 11...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

I hope their right. But right now, I see a Nov. 18 date with our newest nemesis who forces our base on the field and beats the hell out of them and forces the run down our throats.

Those nickel packages may be succesful against the Pats but what about our Nov. 18 nemesis?

As long as we don't throw 5 INTs and/or give up defensive TDs, I think the Steelers will be fine...if we do turn the ball over and allow them to score on defense, then they can stay with the run game...our offense has to be more careful with the ball when playing them and force Blake Bortles to win the game with his arm...

70% sub packages in 17 so I don't think we'll go 80 this year but we will be in the 2-3-6 a bunch and I'm thinking 2-2-7 is very likely it's a big nickle plus 1 or bigger nickle with say Allen in the sub package and Bostic or any ILB off the field. It's a speed D but we may be able to cause confusion if some of the safeties show they can rush the passer that will be a guessing game we could win more then not. Since our ILB's are not all that we may find the hybrids r a solid option.

We need to get better play from Tuitt and Dupree, as far as I'm concerned. Tuitt was dealing with some major injury issues, so let's hope his return to health leads to some automatic improvement there. Not just because of his play, but it keeps Hargraves from having to rotate with Alualu at DE, which I think greatly compounded our problems against the run last year. I don't have any grades against the run or stats to back it up, but it just seems to me that Dupree is not holding the edge or getting to the ball carrier all that often. He needs to step it up.

In addition to a healthy Tuitt, the two safeties drafted are known for their tackling ability - as is Burnett. I think both of those factors will contribute to an improved run defense. Just reminisce for a while about all of the profanities you shouted over each incessant missed tackle last year. We brought in guys who can hunt and tackle. I like it.

Hargreaves still worries me a little, even at NT and Dupree is still a sizable question mark in my mind. Other than that, I think we are good to go with our run D. Definitely in better shape than we were after Shazier went down and maybe better than before his injury.

Hargrave is not a true 3-4 NT
Problem is ... our nemesis likes the Pro 2 back system.
Winning division could mean having a strong base Defense

Yeah.. that’s what I’m thinking. It’s obvious we are trying to get better at coverage in the passing game from our draft. And I get that; but there has to be a balance of not letting our base suffer either. I know it’s tough but it is what it is.

Jags are not going anywhere. They kicked our @ss in our house twice.. the second time putting us out of the playoffs. We can’t forget that. We’ve got to be able to handle the physicality they bring next time.

An improved Dupree, a healthy Heyward and Tuitt would go a long way toward that

I saw him at the combine; didn't see anything unusual about his neck. Your talking like his neck is like Merton Hanks neck used to be. LOL

Jack Lambert was 6'4 220lbs... these are not that far off weight wise.
