yup, I think he lines up all over the field in a hybrid role in nickel and dime sub packages. Hell, he may end up beating out Burnett or replacing him midway thru the season.
Beating out or replacing Burnett might be a stretch, but we can hope that Edmunds plays well enough to rotate in (sub packages).
There are only 32 first round spots. Now think about all the guys they say are first round talents ; way more then 32. There will always be first round worthy talent that slips out of the first round
As a Day 1 Jarvis Jerrell Jones basher (at pick 17 no less) I was very shocked at the pick of Edmunds.
However I won't compare the two . . . I also don't care what "Execs" say about Edmunds being a top 15 player b/c I'm sure plenty said JONES was also.
Edmunds does have some UPSIDE but it's still a toss up. My gut feeling is he will be a "Role Player" at least ... maybe a career NickleBacker.
Then again he might be a very good SS who can play all 3 downs....it would be nice if he could cover TEs.
Although worse case scenario is he's the 2nd coming of Shamarko Thomas picked 2 rounds early.
Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go...

I feel ya; I too am disappointed in our overall draft. Not addressing the ILB position especially. But Colbert tried; he couldn't trade up to get Evans. Just gotta hope Edmunds pans out. But even if he does eventually, I don't see it making that much difference in the 2018 season.
Im with you guys who were disappointed with not addressing ILB in the draft. One FA pick up late in the game could change all of that, though. Fingers crossed.

I think that is what many of us may be thinking. Edmunds wasn't 'their man'. Evans was. So Edmunds was probably a Rd 2 pick if he lasted. If he panned out as a Rd 2 player, probably can be considered a good pick. But a Rd 1 player is supposed to be a game changer. As the second safety taken in what might be considered a weak DB draft leaves some questions.
If we sign Bowman that means that Bostic isn't doing well or gets injured.
I doubt he comes here to be a backup.
Bowman is an upgrade. That’s all I’m thinking about. We are close and I’m not concerned about people’s/ players feelings of who should start or shouldn’t.
Upgrade the position significantly enough to make a difference. That’s all that matters at this point.
