He isnt the tallest, doesnt run a 4.4 but he LEAD THE NCAA in receiving. He became one of the most prolific receivers in college football history, earned All-American honors and won the Fred Biletnikoff Award. He was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 1999 NFL Draft ......

Wait 1999? Must be a typo.....Wait....that WAS Troy Edwards?

Washington LEAD THE NCAA in receiving yards in 2017 but Troy Edwards had a whopping FOUR HUNDRED MORE yards receiving (Troy had 1996 in 98 ) than Washington who was NCAA leader this year.

Fact is, when the Steelers drafted Edwards he had just completed THE MOST PROLIFIC RECEIVING SEASON IN NCAA HISTORY.

Edwards 1996 yards receiving was bested since then ONCE. He remains number 2 all time in receiving yards for a season.
Edwards STILL OWNS THE RECORD for TD receptions in NCAA history with 27 in 1998 (he had 34 total TDs).

For his career Edwards is 10 all time in yards, 3rd all time in TDs.......and he only played 3 seasons of college. Everyone ahead of him played 4 seasons.

On a "per game" basis Edwards was unquestionably the most prolific receiver in NCAA history.

He did not turn out to be a "great" NFL receiver but he was far from a "reach" where we picked him.

The same people who called Edmunds a reach also had Derrius Guice pegged for the first round...perhaps because teams met with Guice, talked with his coaches, etc....

Terrell Edmunds was an underclassman from a Power Five conference with remarkable athleticism, solid production in college, NFL bloodlines, and he dined with the Steelers when they were in Blacksburg for his Pro Day. Seems to fit all of the criteria that this team tends to look for in a first round pick.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Those folks might have rejoiced if we drafted this way:
            1. Mason Rudolph
            2. James Washington
            3. Terrell Edmunds

But complained about the value of drafting:
            1. Terrell Edmunds
            2. James Washington
            3. Mason Rudolph

            It's all the same...

Most had hoped Torry Holt or David Boston would fall. They didn't. The team felt they needed a WR (though I thought Hines was good enough... turns out, HE WAS).

Having said all that, my biggest disappointment with the selection was that I wanted Jevon Kearse, who was there, and we'd lost Greg Lloyd a season or two before...

Funny, looking back at that draft, we got Joey Porter and Aaron Smith (and Zereoue and Kris Brown), but, also guys like Edwards, Scott Shields, Kris Farris... how do you even grade a draft like that?

If the Steelers had other choices available at their pick would Edmunds still be considered a first round talent?

                      huh?

we had every player available to choose from except for the 27 that went ahead of us

                      Is this a trick question?

Yep! I thought he was a possible Steelers pick...

                              or just want someone else.

Guice dropped further than I thought but then again, I didn't have him as the top back. I thought it was Michel and then everyone else.
