    Possible Revised Mock

Do you think this mock is more realistic than the one in my sig? I know it's fairly unlikely that Evans falls to #28, but hey, we got DeCastro a few years back.

Trade Martavis Bryant for a 4th-round pick

    1) Rashaan Evans, ILB, Alabama
    2) Jessie Bates, FS, Wake Forest
    3) Dante Pettis, WR, Washington
    4) Ken Norton, DT, Miami
5a) Josh Adams, RB, Notre Dame
    5b) Dorance Armstrong, OLB, Kansas
    7a) Will Dissly, TE, Washington
    7b) Brett Toth, OT, Army

UDFAs -- Quadree Henderson, WR, Pitt
    Colby Gossett, G, Appalachian St.
    Ebenezer Ogundeko, OLB, Tennessee St.

      Ruth, I got a question.....

Do you mean to tell me that Colbert can’t do some salesmanship and somehow sugar talk the Colts into giving us their 49th pick in the draft for Bryant? Bryant would go there and be a perfect compliment to Hilton and be more then worth that second round pick. I’m just trying to think out the box right now.

After I see what the Patriots did to the Rams, I want to get over on someone too.

Buzz is the one suggesting that we trade Martavis for a 4th, not me (this is my first time viewing this thread). I've suggested in the past possibly using Bryant as ammo to help us move up in round 1 to get Roquan Smith, but I think that we keep MB for this year. If we were to trade Bryant now, here are our WR options on our current roster behind starters Brown and Juju: Darrius Heyward-Bey, Marcus Tucker, Justin Thomas, Trey Griffey, and Tevin Jones. With that motley crew for depth, you better pray AB and JJSS stay healthy. I think we keep Bryant for this season AND draft a WR fairly early in the draft (do not be surprised with another day two selection like last year).
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I think this sounds right. With AB + JJSS + Bryant, I think that we have one of the best receiving corps in the league. Without him, we have much less depth after our top 2.

I also think that Bryant's trade value is probably very low.
            - He's got 1 year left on his contract and he gets suspended for that year with one failed test. While he was clean last year, I don't know how much faith other teams would put in that. I think I'd be worried if the Steelers paid a significant price for a guy who was that close to missing the season.
            - I like Bryant's ability and I thought that he was going to put up great production last year. But, he wasn't very involved in the game plan and he got passed by a rookie (albeit a good one) and
            - I think that the public airing of dirty laundry would be a turnoff for many teams.

Ultimately, I think Bryant has way more value on the field than he does in a trade (because I don't think we could get much for him)

In my mock, I had us drafting Pettis from Washington in round 3. If it played out according to this scenario, the Steelers would move JSS to a primary WR spot opposite AB. Pettis needs some coaching up, but he could offer immediate value operating out of the slot, and he is known as a dangerous punt returner. We would still have Heyward-Bey and Hunter to use as occasional deep outside threats.

I agree that Bryant COULD offer more value on the field than in a trade, but ONLY if we USE him a heck of a lot more than we did last year. If they're merely going to use him as they did last year, I don't think it's so far-fetched to try to get a 4th-rounder out of him to add some much-needed defensive help (I don't know that we could get more than a 4th out of him because of his suspension history).

Well, because of Bryant leaving , I assume we we’re going to draft another Wr regardless on day two of the draft. Basically, I’m ready to commit to the WR that we draft as the third guy and move Bryant now. Plus, Eli Rogers rehab is ahead of schedule too so him and then us keeping hunter should be enough. You can’t tell me that to the Colts or the Bears, Bryant wouldn’t be worth their second round picks.

But I don’t see us using Bryant more then JuJu; that’s the whole point. Why hold him when Juju is the man going forward? Get something for him. Be proactive.

A high second round pick for Bryant? Yeah, I can tell you that the Colts and Bears would probably rather have their 2nd round picks...

Maybe a 3rd or 4th is more realistic or even possible. For a team that has no true #1 WR, and cap space it might be worth it. They have an instant starter who is plug and play, rather than a player who is drafted, who might be a bust.

But we would need to find some depth at WR or play more 2 TE sets.

Bryant is a home run threat, albeit a troubled one...could you replace him this season with a 4th round pick? You are weakening WR to strengthen another position with a 4th round pick...

Eli Rogers and Justin Hunter are both unrestricted free agents right now. They can sign with any team today if they want to.

If our front office is prepared to ride out Le'Veon Bell for one more year at a cap hit of $14.5M toward the ultimate goal of a 2018 championship run, then they'd certainly be inclined to hold onto Martavis Bryant for one more year at a cap hit of $1.9M (the same amount we are paying our punter Jordan Berry and backup OLB Anthony Chickillo in 2018.)

Ruth, Eli isn’t going anywhere and most likely neither is hunter. We can resign them for pennies. That’s decent depth plus the WR we draft. We can have significant depth if Bryant is moved. Too much fear around here; we made it to the AFC championship the year before without Bryant. He’s not that significant especially if you consider we have JuJu now.
